El interés por el estudio de las sociedades antiguas, pero, sobre todo, por la documentación y salvaguarda del patrimonio arqueológico es el germen de las investigaciones desarrolladas en Collados. Ellas son fruto de la dedicación de uno de nosotros, Javier Fanlo, a propiciar el conocimiento y protección de ese patrimonio en el valle del río Huerva a lo largo de una larga trayectoria vital que convergió con la excavación realizada en el Cabezo de la Cruz (La Muela, Zaragoza) en el año 2004, promovida por el Gobierno de Aragón, y cuya dirección fue encargada a José M. ª Rodanés junto con Jesús V. Como resultado de esa convergencia de intereses y de la entidad de la referida actuación, parecía recomendable diseñar un proyecto de investigación más vasto con objeto de estudiar la ingente cantidad de información y restos recuperados en el yacimiento, junto a los que se iban acumulando en el contexto más próximo del río Huerva y otros territorios del valle medio del Ebro. De esta manera se inició el proyecto HUM2005-06512 En el camino de la complejidad. El desarrollo de las comunidades agrarias en el valle del Ebro entre el final del Neolítico y la Primera Edad del Hierro aprobado y financiado por el Ministerio de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología dentro del Plan Nacional de I+D+I para el periodo 2005-2008 con continuidad en sucesivos proyectos HAR2009-13866, HAR2012-36967 y HAR2015-65620-P. En buena lógica, dentro de ese proyecto y como un aspecto fundamental del programa de investigación emprendido pareció conveniente el inicio de prospecciones arqueológicas en el valle medio-bajo del río Huerva con objeto de catalogar los numerosos yacimientos existentes y definir el poblamiento asociado la Cabezo de la Cruz, importante establecimiento con ocupaciones mesolíticas, de la Edad del Bronce y Primera Edad del Hierro, incluso de época medieval. *** Nota: Los envíos a España peninsular, Baleares y Canarias se realizan a través de mensajería urgente.
