Second Edition (after first in 1927). 256 pages. Young adult novel by author of The Adventures of Peter, South with Scott and Keeping the Seas. With color frontispiece illustration by Norman Ellis: "The boy saw the flash of the knife as the nigger made to sever the trace which supported his weight." Evans was second-in-command to Robert Falcon Scott on expedition to the South Pole in 1910-1913. Approx 5 by 8 inches. Good. Light blue cloth, rubbed, bumped at spine front bottom and top. Some pen on first free endpaper but pages clean and binding square.

An account of expeditions with Captain Robert Falcon Scott, a British Royal Navy officer and explorer who led two expeditions to the Antarctic regions. Written by Admiral Edward Ratcliffe Garth Russell Evans, a Royal Navy officer and Antarctic explorer. In the original full crushed morocco binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear and fading to the spine. Original card slip case is smart with light shelf wear, minor bumping and the odd tide mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. With contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Very Good Indeed. book.

hardcover. First Edition. A fine copy in a near fine Dust Jacket missing a single tiny chip to the rear panel. Gift inscription on half title page, small poem clipping affixed to dedication page. The author was second officer of the 'Morning', the ship sent out by the Royal Geographical Society in 1904 to relieve Scott's first Antarctic expedition. In 1909 he was selected by Scott himself as second-in-command of his second expedition and as captain of the 'Terra Nova,' accompanying Scott in January 1912 to within 150 miles of the Pole before he turned back due to illness. Evans was also a naval hero during World War I and later commanded the Australian fleet. Frontispiece, pictorial endpapers and colorful jacket illustration by Manning deV. Lee. An oddly uncommon title and quite rare in Dust Jacket.
