Nichina, une belle courtisane vénitienne, raconte, dans un salon, les aventures de sa vie. Avant d'accéder au respect et à la gloire, elle n'a pas hésité à se livrer aux pratiques les plus viles, à côtoyer les êtres les plus infâmes. En relatant le triomphe de Nichina, c'est à la femme immorale que Rebell rend hommage. Sans doute l'une des rares qu'il traite avec un égard véritable. La Nichina est aussi le premier des grands romans italiens de Rebell, que la Renaissance fascine. Pour faire rebondir sans cesse l'intrigue, il a recours au personnage du moine paillard, qui éructe et flatule à la demande, trousse les jeunes filles et se montre avide de bonne chère. Une fois de plus, Rebell règle ses comptes avec la religion, dont il a lui-même tant souffert et qu'il combattra toute sa vie.
