Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. First Edition. SIGNED in full & INSCRIBED by editor Rupert Pole in red ink on half-title page: "Finally the real story - the missing Anaïs, the passionate woman - Rupert Pole - Philip Kaufman is filming this now in Paris - Dec. 1989". A nice half-page inscription. The book is edited, with a preface by Rupert Pole, Executor, The Anaïs Nin Trust. Rupert Pole was a husband of Anaïs Nin, & her literary executor (see below). FIRST EDITION, stated. First printing, with the full letter line ABCDE on copyright page. From inner front flap of dustjacket: "This autobiographical account of a woman's sexual awakening is without parallel in modern letters. Drawn from the unexpurgated Paris journals of Anaïs Nin, it describes a single momentous year in her life, from late 1931 to the end of 1932, when she met Henry Miller & his wife, June. She fell in love with June's beauty &, at first, with Henry's writing. But soon after June's departure for New York she began a fiery affair with Henry that gambled with her marriage & her idyllic existence in Louveciennes. She discovered her true sexual nature & the meaning of passion. She also discovered the unknown Henry Miller, the gentle, passive man behind the writer's violent words". The movie, released October 1990, was directed by Philip Kaufman, & starred Fred Ward, Maria de Medeiros, & Uma Thurman. The tagline was A True Adventure More Erotic Than Any Fantasy. The film was nominated for Best Cinematography at the 63rd Academy Awards. "Rupert Pole (1919-2006) was a husband of Anaïs Nin, & her literary executor. He was born in Los Angeles. His father Reginald was a highly regarded Shakespearean actor. His parents divorced when he was a boy, & his mother married Lloyd Wright, a son of noted architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Rupert Pole met Nin in an elevator as both were en route to a party given by an heir to the Guggenheim fortune. He was 28 & she was 44 at the time. In her diary entry that evening, Nin noted his emotional sensitivity & knowledge of Eastern philosophies & concluded the entry with 'Danger! He is probably homosexual.' Pole, who was under the impression that Nin had divorced her first husband Hugh Parker Guiler, asked Nin to accompany him to the West Coast. They lived a rustic life in a cabin in the Sierra Madre, where Nin introduced herself as Mrs. Anaïs Pole even though she was still married to Guiler. Nin & Pole were married by a justice of the peace on 17 March 1955. She kept her marriage to Guiler secret from Pole for 11 years, but concern about legal consequences led her to arranging the annulment in 1966 of the marriage with Pole. Nin remained married to Guiler, but spent her final years with Pole. She & Pole lived in a small house in Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighborhood. The house was designed by Pole's half brother & Frank Lloyd Wright's grandson, Eric Lloyd Wright. When Nin died in 1977, her obituary in the LA Times listed Pole as her husband, while the NY Times named Guiler as her spouse. As Nin's literary executor, Pole was responsible for supervising the preparation of new posthumous editions of her works for publication from 1986 to 1996, restoring erotic content that had been made less explicit in the versions published while she lived. Pole died in Los Angeles in 2006 after suffering a stroke." Printed in the USA. Bound in original cream boards backed by blue cloth spine, bright pink/gilt lettering to spine, in publisher's unclipped pictorial dustjacket (retaining original published price of $14.95 on inner front flap). Dustjacket front panel b&w photographs of Henry Miller & wife June, rear panel with b&w photograph of "Anaïs Nin in the 1930s". Two small yellow stain marks to ffep, otherwise a very nice clean tight solid hardcover copy. 274pp. Scarce SIGNED copy by Rupert Pole with wonderful inscription related to the filming of the book. UNIQUE & RARE. Signed by Author(s).
