Neuware -In this book an in-depth study of the state-of-art illumination invariant face recognition techniques have been carried out and a method based on the fusion of two different feature extraction techniques is proposed to overcome the adverse illumination conditions. The proposed system uses the gradient based illumination normalization to remove the illuminance component superiority. To obtain the illumination insensitive face representation, a ratio of the gradient amplitude to the original image intensity is obtained. The facial features are extracted using two different feature extraction techniques. Local binary pattern (LBP) is a very efficient local texture descriptor based on thresholding the pixels in a small neighborhood based on the value of the center pixel. Local ternary pattern (LTP) is a noise resistant modified version of LBP. The features vectors provided by the two techniques are fused at feature level. Neuware -In this book, a segmentation method for automatic detection and extraction of brain tumor from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) images using fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering and seeded region growth is being presented. The MRI technique provides an excellent contrast between the brain tissues and the tumour tissues. The area containing the tumour is brighter in intensity than the area of healthy brain tissues. The image processing techniques and algorithms are applied on the MRI images of the brain tumour. These images are provided as input to the MATLAB software and pre-processing operations viz., image resizing and conversion to grayscale are applied on this input image. The image is then enhanced using the two-dimensional wavelet decomposition in such a way that the finer details in the image are improved. Nearly all block-based transform schemes for image and video coding developed so far choose the 2-D discrete cosine transform (DCT) of a square block shape. With almost no exception, this conventional DCT is implemented separately through two 1-D transforms, one along the vertical direction and another along the horizontal direction. We develop a new block-based DCT framework in which the first transform may choose to follow a direction other than the vertical or horizontal one. The coefficients produced by all directional transforms in the first step are arranged appropriately so that the second transform can be applied to the coefficients that are best aligned with each other.
