One owner who was a collector of children's books. kept behind glass in a conditioned space. This is a stunning copy of a classic. Cover has just the slightest shelf wear. This hardcover landscape format book has two large pop-ups with simple pull tabs that serve as the front and rear endpapers. Pop-ups are complete & crisp.Six page color booklet bound inside are clean with no marks or writing.In the early 1960's, the British publishers Bancroft and Co. teamed up with the massive state-owned publishing house Artia, based out of Prague to create a series of colorful pop-up books based on the Arabian Nights. Two illustrators, Frantisek Sklar and Jaroslav Beza came together to create vibrant renditions of these classic tales, but little is known about the collaboration or these artists. The paper engineering is very simple box layers with expressive artwork in line with Kubasta, who was creating books with Artia at the time. There is no record of who did the pop-up design for this series, so we must assume that there was someone creating it in-house for Artia. Printed by Artia Prague Copyright 1959 in Czechoslovakia. This is a paper coated hard back. This is a stunning copy of a classic. Not Ex-Library, Photos gladly provided - recommended.

Frantiek Skla? and Jaroslav Béza were the two designers of this book, and the series of the "Arabian Nights" that contained two more pop-up books beside this one. The book has two large pop-ups they also serve as the front and rear endpapers, in between there is the twelve page story with four full page colour illustrations and six text illustrations. . The pull up of the front pop-up torn, one of the staples of the text-part missing. Overall in good condition. In original half cloth, with illustrated cardboard First Hungarian edition.
