Now you can find the answers with this collection of short stories, as authors reveal the real-life experiences that inspired them! Some stories imitate the events almosst exactly. Others use just a detail to spark an idea. But all the stories in Been There, Done That prove one thing: that inspiration can come from anywhere. Although the book concentrates on Times Square, now as ever the spectacular's principal gallery, readers may be surprised to learn that the spectacular once flourished in every American city across the land. The blazing images portrayed in these signs are far richer and more complex than they appear to be, for they embody the soul of commercial culture. At the core they are the means by which corporations over the decades have talked to America and conveyed the messages that have helped to shape our daily lives. In large measure they pioneered the electronic communications revolution now taking place all around us. This book presents an extensive syllabus of lectures given by David Starr Jordan and Edward Benjamin Krehbiel at Leland Stanford Junior University in 1911 and 1912. The lectures focused on the evolution of international conciliation, tracing the gradual shift from a world governed by force towards one governed by law and education. The syllabus explores the history of warfare, analyzing the evolution of weaponry, military organization, and the treatment of soldiers and civilians. It also examines the economic consequences of war, the world's war equipment and expenditure, and the role of peace movements and international organizations in promoting conciliation. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the history of international relations and the efforts to establish a more peaceful world, offering valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of global cooperation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Earth First! quickly came to national attention with their "cracking" of Glen Canyon Dam activist stunt, which was performed and filmed in the spring of 1981. Edward Abbey is considered to be the "literary father" of the group. "Earth First! is the beginning of the new, bold environmental movement. And 'Earth First! The Radical Environmental Journal' is its voice. No compromise in the defense of Mother Earth!" (Dave Foreman, Editor).
