Anonymous German version of two popular 18th century travel accounts of England, Scotland and Wales originally published in English in 1780. The translator's preface, dated: Hamburg, 30th April 1781, states that both texts were chosen for their entertaining writing and that notes from other recent works on the subject had been added for the benefit of the reader. The politician and miscellanous writer, Sir Richard Joseph Sullivan (1752-1806) wrote his Observations made during a Tour of England, Scotland and Wales In a Series of Letters after his return from India. He was made a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and the Royal Society in 1785. John Hutton (1740-1806), Vicar of Burton in Kendall, wrote a 'Tour to the Caves, in the environs of Ingleborough and Settle in the West- Riding of Yorkshire. With some philosophical conjecture on the deluge, and the alterations on the surface and interior parts of the earth occasioned by this great revolution of nature'. The book was reprinted in 1781. An excellent, fresh copy with light rubbing to corners and ends of spine only.
