Diese kleine Industriestadt hatte 7.000 Einwohner, 2.000 davon waren Mitglieder der Anarchosyndikalistischen Gewerkschaft FAUD. Nach Vorträgen von Rudolf Rocker, dem wichtigsten Theoretiker der "Freien Arbeiter Union Deutschlands" verließen viele ihre bisherige Organisation USPD, um der FAUD beizutreten. Die Geschichte der FAUD in Sömmerda und in Deutschland als Ganzes wird mit einer breiten Palette von alten Fotos und Literatur erzählt und durch Interviews mit dem Historiker Andreas Graf und dem 84-jährigen Augenzeugen Karl Wandt veranschaulicht, der ein FAUD Mitglied in Sömmerda war. Die Geschichte der anarchosyndikalistischen Idee wird bis heute weiterverfolgt.
