CONDITION: Very Good in Good Minus jacket; no names, straight, tight, clean; extrems bumped and rubbed; in jacket with rubbed creases and edges, creases near spine affecting illustration, old paper repair to 2" corner tear and to damaged spine, see image; despite all this, the only loss of paper is at spine foot, so Kubasta's illustration is complete. Czech language hardback. "The little red beetle with seven black dots, called Sunshine, discovers the world and experiences adventures with its insect friends." Beautiful pictures with great characterization and depth of color, recalling the best of Kubasta's much later pop-up work. (The Communist party took over the publishing business in Czechoslovakia in 1948). In rare jacket. ABE Heritage Seller since 1996; conservative AB condition grading. Lower cover unfolds to form the base a large full-colour pop up of the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. A very good copy, closed tears along two folds but otherwise in very good condition with the rigging of the ships still intact. § Later printing of this famous pop-up book by Czech artist Vojt ch Kuba ta, with 1960 Artia copyright statement beneath imprint. It was printed in Czechoslovakia, designed for export to the West. "Given Eastern Bloc isolation, the international popularity of Kuba ta's books is remarkable.
