Paperback. Condizione: Good. Minor shelf wear, rear cover has creasing to the bottom corner, sticker remnant to the top front cover, binding tight, pages have underlining and bracketing in ink. Bill Wilber is internationally renowned as a clarinetist, saxophonist and arranger who has won acclaim - and the coveted Grammy Award for his work on Coppola's The Cotton Club. Music Was Not Enough tells of Wilber's early fame as a bandleader and protege of his late father Sidney Bechet. From leading his own band in the 1940s, Wilber went on to Europe with Mezz Mezzrow's all star band. He later became involved with the Six, the bands of Bobby Hackett and Eddie Condon, and then came to prominence with the World' Greatest Jazz Band, Sorano Summit and the Bechet Legacy. Wilber's account of his studies with Bechet and other early jazzmen, his attempt to survive as a musician during the 1950s and 196-s and his subsequent return to fame make this book an important contribution to jazz history.

Robert Sage Wilber (1928 2019) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, and band leader. Although his scope covers a wide range of jazz, Wilber was a dedicated advocate of classic styles, working throughout his career to present traditional jazz pieces in a contemporary manner. He played with many distinguished jazz leaders in the 1950s and 1960s, including Bobby Hackett, Benny Goodman, Sidney Bechet, Jack Teagarden and Eddie Condon. In the late 1960s, he was an original member of the World's Greatest Jazz Band, and in the early 70s of Soprano Summit, a band which gained wide attention. In the late 1970s, he formed the Bechet Legacy Band. Inscribed by Wilber, Mark Shane, & Warren Chiasson. RAREA1988ABCA - 09/18 FORN-TUB-0070-BB-2503-HKREV626. Inscribed by Author(s).
