"Spiders may indeed be useful and inoffensive allies of man when they confine their efforts to the entrapment of the typhoid fly and the adornment of lawns and rosebushes; but the particular species which forms the subject of this book is no neutral bystander or friendly neighbor. Hundreds of deaths and thousands of sufferers prove her vicious character." - Foreword.
