Maroon Cloth. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First Edition. Type: Z 248pp. 1964. First edition. A unique copy - charmingly illuminated in watercolour by a former owner - Archibald Niven to the front preliminary blank page - see digital image. He has illuminated it with floral motifs and has used the texts from Acts 16.31, II Timothy 1.12 and John 10.28. The rest of the book remains clean and tight. The preliminary blank has been strengthened by two pieces of paper pasted to the verso - presumably to support the illumination. There are a couple of light watercolour marks to the following leaf. The book is bumped at the head and tail of the spine. The wrapper is a little soiled and rubbed with a chip to one corner and smaller chips to a couple of thers. There are three short tears expertly repaired. A charming illuminated copy.

Maroon Cloth. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Type: Z Adam and Charles Black, 1903-1912, 1912. 4to. Book Condition: Used - Good. Cloth, quarto. Vol. I: Early London: Prehistoic, Roman, Saxon and Norman, 370 pp.; Vol. II: Medieval London: Historical and Social, 419 pp.; Vol. III: Medieval London: Ecclesiastical, 436 pp.; Vol. IV: The Time of the Tudors, 430 pp.; Vol. V: In the Time of the Stuarts, 400 pp.; Vol. VI: In the Eighteenth Century, 667 pp.; Vol. VII: In the Nineteenth Century, 421 pp.; Vol. VIII: London City, 491 pp.; Vol. IX: North of the Thames, 681 pp.; Vol. X: South of the Thames, 372 pp. All volumes profusely illustrated with text figures and plates. All but three volumes have a fold-out map at the rear. A very good, clean, tight set in original publisher's maroon cloth - ornately blindstamped in gilt to the spine and gitl embossed titles to the front boards. All the volumes have bevelled edges with upper edge gilt. The text supported by numerous photographic reproductions in black and white to each volume. Some bumps to head/tails of the spines and to some corners of various volumes. Some mostly light very scattered foxing - chiefly to the fore-edges of some volumes and occasionally elsewhere. A nik or short split in the cloth of 'London in the nineteenth century - not very open or noticable. A similar but even less noticable nik to the head of medieval London. Medieval London is embossed to the spine and front board but only the title and publisher on the spine are highlighted in gilt - possibly a printer's flaw. Some of the fold-out maps have very short tears at their bases - all expertly repaired and often the case with heavy fold-out maps. One has an additional crease line with a short tear or nik to its margin. A very attractive, clean, tight well preserved set.
