Mappa Prima edizione
Condizione: Fine. "The exotic international locales of Ernest Hemingway's real-life travels and fictional adventures are compiled and vividly illustrated here. Follow Hemingway through the backstreet Parisian haunts of his expatriate years and into the sidewalk cafes he frequented with F. Scott Fitzgerald and Gertrude Stein, then travel to the walled, romantic streets of Pamplona for the running of the bulls, and be transported through the romantic -- yet manly -- world of Papa's fiction, as well as to the many, many places he lived, worked and played." This map has been "shaped to the geographical range of Hemingway's fiction, so that even armchair adventurers can visit the exotic, even dangerous, places Hemingway wrote about. Also included are representative lists of Hemingway's residences in the Americas, and in Paris, as well as a few locations of the Lost Generation hangouts of his time." In vignette are featured representations of Hemingway's signature locales, such as Spain, Cuba, Italy during WW I, Africa, Paris, and Michigan. This large map measures 27" X 20" and is perfect for framing and display! Original fold lines, as issued.

Libro Prima edizione Copia autografata
Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. B&W photos on matte stock (illustratore). 1st Edition. 8vo trade paperback "very good" with some creasing along the spine and an inch-and-a-half diagonal crease to bottom corner of rear wrap. Hand-dated "1986" to title page and signed "Merry Christmas / Byron Hanchett." (The "signatures" of Bill & Austine Hearst which appear to rear wrap are reproduced in print -- those two, unlike author Hanchett's signature, are not "live.") 1988 blind-stamp of The Cavalier Inn below that inscription, and there's a gold sticker to front wrap bearing a stylized letter "C" reading "With Our Compliments." (The Cavalier Inn is an oceanfront hostelry in San Simeon, three miles from Hearst Castle.) Author Hanchett started work at the Hearst Castle in 1946, and stayed on through the conversion to a California state "Historical Monument" and tourist attraction after the Hearst family donated the core of the property to the state in 1957. While the castle in generally thought of in terms of '"Citizen Kane," as an over-the-top, forbidding, and self-indulgent display area for the newspaper magnate's voracious collection of medieval European art and statuary, Hanchett makes clear it actually operated on the model of a self-sufficient medieval castle, surrounded by a functioning 275,000-acre cattle ranch with 50 miles of Pacific Ocean front, its own airport, poultry farm, orchards, zoo, stables, swimming pools, motion picture theater, its own powerhouse and fully staffed telephone switchboard, electric shop, plumbing shop, blacksmith shop, stonemason, etc. 200 pp., now reduced from $150. Inscribed by Author(s).
