Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The just resolution of the Palestinian right of return is at the very heart of the Middle East peace process. Nonetheless, the Obama administration intends to impose a comprehensive peace settlement upon the Palestinians that will force them to give up their well-recognized right of return under United Nations General Assembly Resolution 194(III)) of 1948; accept disjointed chunks of territory on the West Bank in Gaza; and, even expressly recognize Israel as "the Jewish State". All this will fail, for the reasons so powerfully and eloquently stated in this, Francis A. Boyle's new book. In elaborating what the Palestinians must now do to realize their international legal right of return, Boyle offers nothing less than a paradigm shift in understanding the actuality of the state of Israel created on the territory of Palestine in 1948. While contemporary analysts may view present day Israel as having evolved from a purportedly vulnerable "David" to the Goliath of the Middle East, Boyle recalls not only its historic dependence on Western imperial powers, but its ongoing client status. No matter how foreign and domestic Zionists might be able to manipulate US Middle East policy to Israel's advantage, Israel remains, as recently acknowledged by Shimon Peres, dependent for its continued existence on the United States. Drawing the parallels between Israel's creation and sustenance, first by the UK and then the US to further their own imperial interests in the Middle East, Boyle highlights its modern day client relationship to the United States. Netanyahu's demand for Palestinian recognition of Israel as a "Jewish State", belatedly injected into the peace negotiations, is a blatant attempt to once again lead the talks towards collapse. But such a notion is noxious not just for the Palestinians, whose final ethnic cleansing it portends. It bears profound ramifications for the future evolution of international law as it relates both to the key principles of universality (one law for all) and of religious and ethnic nondiscrimination. If the Palestinians must recognize Israel as "the Jewish State", then must the world as well? And if so, is there to be one law for Israel, accepting of its institutionalized racism, and one law for the rest of the states - or will the Israeli example entice states backward from their progressive acceptance of multinationalism and nondiscrimination, towards a search for ethnic purity. What are the Palestinians to do? Francis Boyle's solution, delivered in this, his last instruction to the Palestinians, goes to the heart of the matter. the right of the Palestinian refugees to return to their homes. The reader must study this book in order to understand why the realization of this right goes to the very heart of the Middle East peace process between Israelis and Palestinians. Persistent failure and refusal by the governments of Israel and the US to heed the profound words of wisdom contained in this book will only produce at least another generation of violence, bloodshed, and tears between Israelis and Palestinians. In elaborating what the Palestinians must now do to realize their international legal right of return, this title offers a paradigm shift in understanding the actuality of the state of Israel created on the territory of Palestine in 1948. It recalls not only Israel's historic dependence on Western imperial powers, but its client status. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The game motif is useful as a metaphor for the broader rivalry between nations and economic systems with the rise of imperialism and the pursuit of world power. This game has gone through two major transformations since the days of Russian-British rivalry, with the rise first of Communism and then of Islam as world forces opposing imperialism. The main themes of "Postmodern Imperialism: Geopolitics and the Great Games" include: US imperial strategy as an outgrowth of British imperialism, and its transformation following the collapse of the Soviet Union; the significance of the creation of Israel with respect to the imperial project; the repositioning of Russia in world politics after the collapse of the Soviet Union; the emerging role of China and Iran in Eurasia; and, the emerging opposition to the US and NATO. As the critical literature on NATO, the new Russia, and the Middle East is fragmented, this work brings these elements together in historical perspective with an understanding from the Arab/ Muslim world's point of view, as it is the main focus of all the "Great Games".It strives to bridge the gap between Western, Russian and Middle Eastern readers with an analysis that is accessible and appeals to all critical thinkers, and at the same time provides the tools to analyse the current game as it evolves. The Great Games of yore - Britain vs. Russia and their empires in the 19th century, and the US vs. the Soviet Union in the 20th century - no longer translate merely as the US vs. Russia or Russia/China. A major new player is a collective one, NATO, which today is as vital as the emperor's clothes to justify the global reach of US imperialism. Today, the "playing field" - the geopolitical context - is broader than it was in either the 19th or 20th century games, though Eurasia continues to be "centre field", where most of the world's population and energy resources lie. The existence of Israel is an anomaly which seriously complicates the shaping of the geopolitical game. Its roles in the Great Games as both colony and an imperial power in its own right, is analysed in the context of the history of Judaism and its relations with both the western Christian and the Muslim worlds. Deals with such themes as: US imperial strategy as an outgrowth of British imperialism, and its transformation following the collapse of the Soviet Union; the significance of the creation of Israel with respect to the imperial project; and, the repositioning of Russia in world politics after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The False Messiah is Volume I of a monumental history of the Israel-Palestine conflict, Zionism: The Real Enemy of the Jews, by a seasoned reporter with a vast first-hand knowledge of the Middle East. It is the first book to put the struggle for Palestine into its global context-to show how all the pieces of a complicated jig-saw puzzle fit together. It's also the first ever account of events to address the motives, needs, and dilemmas faced by all sides: diaspora Jews' real fear of Holocaust II; the Palestinian right to justice and self-determination; the legitimate anger of the Arab masses at American support for Zionism right or wrong; and the inevitable corruption and repression of the regimes of the existing Arab Order who, fearing harsher Israeli assaults, have tried to contain them. As a former BBC Panorama and ITN Middle East correspondent, Alan Hart knew and interviewed most of the main players in the Israel-Palestine conflict (Golda Meir, Moshe Dayan, Shimon Peres, Yasser Arafat and other PLO leaders, George Habash, Nasser, King Hussein of Jordan, King Feisal of Saudi Arabia, and many others). He also exhibits a wealth of research into a full spectrum of viewpoints, to unearth how and by whom the levers of US policy in the Middle East have been pulled from pre-creation of Israel to the end of the Clinton era. Hart takes us well beyond the existing written record, weaving events play by play/player by player, prying out the motivating factors and sequences of events which the surface flow of official histories leave uncovered, where, truly, the devil is in the details. This series is key to understanding US/Israeli relations as developed over the long term, and who has been the primary determiner of policy in the region. "The False Messiah" is the first volume in a new 3 volume series that takes readers on an epic journey through the monumental history of the Israel-Palestine conflict led by a seasoned reporter with a vast firsthand knowledge of the Middle East. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
