This is just one argument of just one creationism theory. Evolutionism is not the only theory of how the earth and every living being were created. People who believe in a supernatural 'higher being' involved into the development of life claim that creationism is a science too. But if God created the universe to look old, though the Bible is an unquestioned truth: Is God a deceiver US creationists usually support a literal interpretation of the Bible, although even the Vatican itself claimed that the evolution theory by Darwin is compatible with the history of creation written in the Bible. (Pope Benedict XVI., 2007)The following text will focus on the discussion between creationists and evolutionists in the USA. The two most common theories in the USA are 'Scientific Creationism' and 'Intelligent Design Creationism'. The dossier will cover the position of the creationists in respect of the US education system, their involvement in political decisions and the 'Institute of Creation Research'. As the theory of creationism is found not only in devout regions of the USA but worldwide, the paper will also give a comparison of the situation in the USA and Europe.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Essay from the year 2008 in the subject Book Science, grade: 1,6, Edinburgh Napier University, language: English, abstract: ¿Waverley¿ or ¿¿Tis Sixty Years Since¿ the first novel by Sir Walter Scott tells the story of Edward Waverley who gets involved in the Jacobite rebellion of 1745. The novel tells about authentic battles during the rebellion and is therefore considered the first historic novel ever written. Published anonymously on 7 July 1814 it took not only Edinburgh but also the rest of Great Britain by storm and proved a popular sensation. It guided the way following generations wrote and understood history. The enormous impact as the prototypical English historical novel soon made it the most successful work of its kind and for the first time in history the novel became a respectable form.On that account this assessment will have a closer look at the creation and success of the novel ¿Waverley¿ by Sir Walter Scott, by giving an overview over the impact it had when it was published, the publisher and printer and the author himself and analysing the reasons for its success and fast dissemination. The paper will close with a summary and conclusion.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware -Essay from the year 2007 in the subject Politics - Political Systems - General and Comparisons, grade: 1,0 (A), , course: Canada in the World, From Laurier to 21st Century, language: English, abstract: Immigration policy is a crucial element of a country¿s policy making. In each country it developed throughout the history of the respective country and, thus, reflects a nation¿s historical development. However, immigration policy does not only reflect the past or historical development of a country or nation, it is also continuously adjusted to contemporary economic, cultural and political events and developments (Finley 27). Thus, it suggests itself that this element of policy making is a very vivid one, since it does not discontinue changing. Moreover, it is a well-known fact that the distinct historical pasts of different countries led to varying approaches to and systems of immigration policy.Throughout the past decades countries all over the world have witnessed skyrocketing numbers of migrants. While in 1960 there were 76 million migrants worldwide, their number had more than doubled by 2000 with 175 million and further increased drastically to 200 million migrants in 2005 worldwide. Thus, international migrants, including more than nine million refugees, are now said to account for 3% of the world¿s population (Finley 27). It goes without saying that it is primarily the rich western countries such as Canada and Germany that attract immigrants due to the fact they are able to provide sophisticated standards of living. Thus, it suggests itself that the ever-increasing number of migrants into western countries call for well-functioning laws and systems governing the influx and the integration of these migrants. Thus, as already indicated by its topic, this essay will shed some light on how the two countries try to govern the influx of immigrants and compare their policies and policy systems. In order to be able to compare both policies with each other, the essay will begin by providing a brief historical background of Canadian and German immigration and afterwards describe the contemporary immigration policies of both countries briefly. Thereafter, the following distinct elements of these policies in both countries respectively the factors influencing them will be compared: growth of population and economic implications, restrictions, and integration vs. xenophobia. The aim of this essay is to find out whether the two systems are rather similar to each other or completely different.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 16 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Essay from the year 2009 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: Africa, , language: English, abstract: The role of the United Nations and the West in the Congo between 1960 and 1964 can only be characterised as a tragedy. We are still witnessing the consequences of the myopic and misguided policies that were pursued by UN officials and western leaders at the time. This paper elucidates the story of how Lumumba was first betrayed and then murdered. It analyses how historians and political scientists have treated the conflict and suggests ways in which scholars from the two disciplines can cooperate better and learn from one another. The paper reverts to international relations theories that adequately explain what happened between 1960 and 1964.This essay critically examines why UN intervention in the Congo failed to achieve the intended peace that constituted the rationale behind its intervention. The essay will argue that perceptions and misperceptions among UN members exacerbated a rift between the UN and the realities of the conflict. And the Cold War ideology at the time and Belgium¿s support for Moise Tshombe to secede Katanga because of their hatred for Patrice Lumumba, greatly hampered UN mission as a peace machinery.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 20 pp. Englisch.

The eponymous narrator in Jasmine, also known as Jyoti, Jase or Jane, passes through one situation and country to another and so is her inner self reborn several times towards a higher level, until she finally seems to have found a place to rest.Throughout the novel, Jasmine experiences numerous situations that bring violence with them. She is not always the subject of these situations, but they are always connected with her. It is not only physical violence experienced, but also mental violence that influences Jasmines further way of life and forces her to be reborn as a different person. The rough pictures that Mukherjee draws of violent moments reflect the psychological pain that comes with the changes of culture and life that Jasmine experiences. The paper will deal with these moments and analyze them according to their meaning for Jasmine. 16 pp. Englisch.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware -Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Theology - Biblical Theology, grade: 63.00, , course: BA in Theology, language: English, abstract: Whilst Paul, as can be seen in his writings overall, had worked faithfully in preaching to all particularly the Gentiles, Romans 9-11 reveals his concerns for both the Jewish converts and the Gentiles predominantly in relation to their attitudes towards each other. For instance, the Jewish converts who had returned to Rome following their expulsion by Claudius,(10ce-54ce;Acts.18:2), were specifically concerned regarding the annulment of the Law which theybelieved was required to make them ritually pure. While the main function of the Law was to maintain the holiness of Israel and protect its purity it also indicated that the Israelites were apeople called by God and set apart from all other nations. Then again the Gentile Christians had a tendency to treat the Jewish non-Christians as inferior and rejected the concerns of the Jewish Christians for their non-practice of the Law.Consequently, and similar to the historian Josephus, Paul in his letter to the Romans related the traditional Jewish story of their origins with radical Christian modification, (cf.Rom 9), to try and wean the Gentile converts away from the latent pride they had in being Romans. In doing so he undermined the story of Rome. However it seems that 9-11 was a clear effort on his part to reconcile the Jews and the Gentiles in their rationale, ensuring that they understood they were both equal in the eyes of God.Therefore, and for the purpose of this essay, a succinct insight into Paul¿s theological thinking will firstly be referred to, followed by a brief portrayal of the beliefs of Judaism as asingular faith group. Then an in depth discussion of Romans 9-11 will take place which will portray the ingenuity of Paul in using vocabulary in such a way as to challenge his listeners who were both Jewish and Gentile converts. In bringing it all together in the conclusion the reader will finally understand why the issue raised in 9-11 is so important to Paul and why he uses the particular technique that he uses in his response.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Didactics for the subject English - Literature, Works, grade: 2.3, University of Regensburg (Anglistik und Amerikanistik), course: Proseminar Virginia Woolf und Jeanette Winterson, language: English, abstract: ¿I believe that all novels, that is to say, deal with character, and that it is to express character- not to preach doctrines, sing songs, or celebrate the glories ofthe British Empire, that the form of the novels, so clumsy, verbose, and undramatic, so rich and unelastic, and alive, has been evolved. To express character, I have said.¿Virginia Woolf made this ¿character expressing¿ to the centre of her work and brought it to perfection in her late novels. She began using a stream technique in Jacob¿s Room to describe characters¿ thoughts and feelings. In phase II she built her novels on characters¿ thoughts, formed the plot through description and characters mind progression. In To The Lighthouse Woolf let the plot progress through the developments of character. The Waves completely relies on the description of the characters¿ minds and is phase III of her development. ¿She reaches perfection in characters¿ thought and mind description¿ through the ¿stream of consciousness.¿The purpose of this work is to cover a basic approach on the stream technique Woolf uses in her novels, as well as embed some text passages in the psychological background William James and Henri Bergson gave in their theories. Bergson and James are both psychologists who gave way to theories oftime and duration, as well as to the theory of consciousness. Bergson, who was senior of William James, was highly influenced by James¿ work and it is said that Bergson¿s writing of Les données immédiates de la conscience was influenced by James¿ article ¿On Some Omissions of Introspective Psychology¿. Concurrently Bergson was highly regarded by James:¿So modest and unpretending a man but such a genius intellectually! I have the strongest suspicions that the tendency which he has brought to a focus, will end by prevailing,(.)¿Consequently it is obligatory to combine Woolf¿s ideas of character description and her stream technique, with which she provides an insight into the character, with James¿ and Bergson¿s work. This can of course not be done in extenso on the following pages but I am trying to give an overview what we can deplore behind the surface of Woolf¿s work.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2010 in the subject Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict, Security, grade: 1,0, University of California, San Diego (Department of Political Science), course: National Security Strategy , language: English, abstract: The Iranian nuclear program has been one of the major controversies in international affairs in the 21st century. While Iran insists on the right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes (under the terms of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, NPT), the international community fears the secret weaponization of Iran¿s program. Neither could Iran convince the international community that it does not (intend to) work on a program for nuclear weapons, nor could the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, China + Germany (P5+1 countries) ¿ implement effective measures in the form of diplomacy with sanctions to initially deter Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons capability. In the following policy paper, the problem will be first introduced by summarizing its history. A presentation of major players in the conflict and their preferences will help to analyze available strategy options for the United States as well as their possible consequences and chances of success. The following three strategies will be discussed.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 28 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Communications - Movies and Television, grade: keine, University of Münster (Englisches Seminar), language: English, abstract: This survey will show that stylistic theories, especially the analysis of dialogues in terms of speech acts, turn taking and politeness, can be applied to movies. The intention is to show that these theories, previously applied to literature, enable us to access a complete new level of movie analysis. Language and narrative features in movies are similar to the features in written fiction like novels and can be valued under same criteria. The analysis will focus on two interrogation scenes using the effect of speech acts combined with performance features in order to create a realistic picture of the Replicant itself. This fictional artificial lifeform has a decisive role in the plot of ¿Bladerunner¿, for the difference between humans and Replicants can only be made out from deviations in language, gesture and reactions. These criteria will be looked at in reference to Mick Short¿s and Michael Toolan¿s basic stylistic theories. The primary objective is to reconstruct the way Scott uses language to outline the characteristics of Replicants from human behavior. Another ambition is to reconstruct the development of realism in sci-fi, in respect of the given criteria, and to show that it has increased over the last decades.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 28 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Communications - Movies and Television, grade: 2,0, University of Copenhagen (Film- und Medienwissenschaft), course: Between Documentary and Fiction, language: English, abstract: In this essay I want to focus on the integration of ¿factual discourse¿ in its different forms in a movie and the effects they are creating for the viewer. First of all it is interesting to look, where we can situate the biographical movie within fiction and historical truthfulness. I want to show that re-enactment of originals and the application of fictional facts is animating the viewer to reflect differently on the represented images. Here it is interesting to observe the story-line of Jack Rollins, including the effects of aesthetics and documentary consciousness. The movie is playing to a huge account with aesthetics, but also with the cultural knowledge of people ¿knowing¿ something about Bob Dylan and the previous documentaries ¿Don¿t look back¿ (cinema verite) and ¿No direction home¿. It is interesting to observe how the viewer can actually differentiate between factual and fictional discourse and to which degree he might believe, what is presented to him. The question can also be framed into the whole aim of the movie, which might explain the choice of certain media techniques. In which ways is factual discourse integrated in the movie ¿I¿m not there¿ Which documentary techniques underline the purpose for authenticity How does the movie play with the concept of ¿documentary consciousness¿ What does the re-enactment of factual discourse and material together with fictional elements achieve compared to a classical documentary BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 32 pp. Englisch.

It oversimplifies the consumption of overhead costs byproducts, services and customers and therefore leads to distorted cost information.Activity-based costing (ABC), developed by single manufacturing firms in the early 1980sseems to provide more reliable information. The second part of this work describes theconcept of ABC by summarizing the arguments of two pioneers in this field. In their book¿Relevance Lost: The Rise and Fall of Management Accounting¿, first published in 1987, H.Thomas Johnson and Robert S. Kaplan (1991) examine the traditions of management accounttingand describe possible improvements. In part three the developments of ABC in the last 20years are described by reviewing a choice of important literature. Part four then shows theimpact that ABC had on implementing companies. The conclusion, part five, contains anassessment of the used literature and an evaluation of whether the critic of traditionalmanagement accounting has been overcome by ABC.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2010 in the subject Computer Science - Internet, New Technologies, grade: 1.7, University of Applied Sciences Berlin, language: English, abstract: Since Apple released the iPhone in 2007 the conversion into a mobile web has accelerated strongly. This paper discusses the challenges resulting from that shift. The diversity of platforms and device specifications put a heavy burden on developers. While each platform offers an own proprietary API for developing applications it is often desirable to develop applications platform independently. One possible way today is to use web technologies. Although this offers a platform independent API many commonly used system APIs are not accessible. For most applications this is not acceptable since the use of sensors and file I/O is a premise to build modern user experiences. But now another interesting part of mobile development begins to merge into the sphere of web technology. This is the use of widgets. Widgets were originally designed for desktop use as small single purpose applications but were quickly adapted on the web. Those applications are written using web standards like HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The widgets we see on the web today can only use the limited JavaScript APIs that is provided by the browsers. Also the W3Cs current widget specification fails to deliver on device APIs, where only packaging and a widgets configuration is specified. That is why new specifications are about to be made and standardized. They describe Widget Engines and their APIs that wrap around modern handsets system APIs. During the last two years mayor telecommunication companies founded joint ventures like JIL and BONDI to fulfill this goal. Both JIL and BODI have worked out specifications on device APIs and security as well as reference implementations for at least one mobile platform. These results are the input for a new round of widget specification within the W3C. While there are neither standards nor implementations around today developers have to handle platform diversity themselves. This problem is tackled by some frameworks of which Phonegap and J2ME-Polish are introduced in the conclusion of this paper.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 32 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1,0, Technical University of Chemnitz (Anglistik / Amerikanistik), course: Hauptseminar: Postcolonialism in the Metropolis, language: English, abstract: The 20th century is often referred to as the century of rising cities and of an urbanisation of society due to factors like the Industrialisation, which had a tremendous influence on society. In the beginning 21st century, those developments have even gained in speed and dimension, while further impacts and consequences of this process can only vaguely be anticipated. Moreover, the term ¿globalisation¿ can literally be found at every corner. As a result of this long-lasting trend, huge metropolises have been constructed all over the globe. One of them, namely London, will be in the centre of this term paper. Yet, the focus will lie more on some individuals than on the great mass of people living in such a city, as I will examine the portrayal of the main protagonists of the movie titled Dirty Pretty Things (2002), directed by Stephen Frears. I am going to analyse the movie, which must be seen just like any other literary genre, with the focus on its content. The drama Dirty Pretty Things portraits the faith of undocumented ¿ and hence illegal ¿ immigrants to Great Britain and their gloomy everyday-life with an ever insecure future of being allowed to stay in their chosen residence or not. Always hiding and being forced to adapt to other lifestyles with different customs, traditions, or a different language ¿ or generally speaking, another culture ¿ their identity is put into question. Being deeply despaired and seeing no other chances for an improved life, some even risk to sacrifice a kidney for the opportunity of a passport, which is the main issue of Dirty Pretty Things. Can the protagonists Okwe and Senay cope with those difficult circumstances And how does their identity develop in such an environment of exploitation and assimilation Can they maintain their cultural roots and form a diaspora, or will they break to pieces under the immense pressure surrounding them Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 28 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Scientific Essay from the year 2008 in the subject Didactics for the subject English - Literature, Works, grade: none, University of Vienna (Anglistik/Amerikanistik), language: English, abstract: Medea is a name familiar to everyone. The associations vary but we all know her to be the murderess of her children. This article presents the myth of Medea, the different legends and literary works, the literary history and the many changes in the portrayal of her story and character. The interpretations of her myth in different eras throws a light on our collective understanding of a figure contested throughout the ages. While Euripides allegedly introduces the child-murder as an act of revenge, the new feminist-oriented works try to lift the accusation of child-murder from Medeäs shoulders. Deconstructing the archetype of ¿mother¿, French feminism discusses the notion of a patriarchal system of thought which systematically puts woman in the passive, silenced place of ¿the other¿. What Medea becomes in the light of such philosophical thought is analysed here.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 28 pp. Englisch.
