However, integrating cost-effective MBIs into medical interventions might offer novel multidisciplinary treatment options for conditions with underlying psychophysical or chronic inflammatory states. Accordingly, possible mechanisms of action of MBIs that exert influence on physiological diseases are evaluated. Namely, the mindfulness stress buffering hypothesis, the mind-body genomics model and a reduction in negative affect reduction theory are discussed. The examination indicates that MBIs might work by reducing chronic inflammatory states, altering gene expression and impacting hormonal secretion. Further, the reduction of negative affect seems to be associated to various positive health outcomes. Preliminary research findings reveal moderate effect sizes in the treatment of conditions such as cardiovascular disease, psoriasis, diabetes and chronic pain. However, the results should be treated with caution as control-groups and follow-ups were often absent. Further, a clear definition of mindfulness is necessary for improved scientific operalization. So how should we act, and who should we listen to, if we know that nobody can tell what the 'real' truth is It almost seems like truth is something that we desperately need but can not have. I begin my search for answers by looking at two of the most fundamental theories of truth: the Correspondence Theory of Truth and the Coherence Theory of Truth. Those two can be considered 'basic' or classical answers to the question of truth, while several others, like Tarski¿s Theory of Truth, Realism and Antirealism, Deflationism, and others either try to cope with the problems that arise in the context of those classical conceptions or state completely new ones. Since I am ultimately interested in the notion of scientific truth, the second chapter is dedicated to the discussion of two modern theoretical approaches to the problem of truth, Steve Fuller's critical 'Post-Truth' approach and the positive 'Veritist' approach represented by Baker and Oreskes, that aim to explain how scientific truth differs from everyday truth and how scientists establish consensus among each other. 3As both approaches substantially differ in their interpretation of the problem, I discuss Hans Vaihinger's Fictionalist Theory of Truth in an effort to 'sublate' ('aufheben' in Hegels words) both approaches in a synthesis afterwards. Finally, I use the newly gained knowledge and apply it to the example of man- made global warming. Die Analyse bezieht sich dabei stilistisch auf das Genre der amerikanischen Schauerliteratur, durch welche innerhalb des Films die Darstellung von Afroamerikanern und Weißen untersucht wird. Anhand dieser Analyse werden vorherrschende Muster des strukturellen Rassismus in Amerika hervorgehoben. Zu Beginn wird der geschichtliche Zusammenhang des Genres der amerikanischen Schauerliteratur zur Darstellung nicht-weißer Minderheiten in der Populärkultur dargestellt. Dabei trug das Genre schon zu Beginn der Entstehung der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika zu oftmals diskriminierenden, von Stereotypen geprägten Auffassungen nicht-weißer Minderheiten bei. In der Entwicklung des Genres wurde es schließlich jedoch auch von diesen Individuen genutzt, um sogenannte 'counter-narratives', also Gegenerzählungen, welche den bestehenden, hegemonischen Diskurs kritisierten, zu kreieren. Der darauffolgende Analyseteil ist in zwei Hauptkapitel geteilt, das Erste behandelt dabei die Darstellung von Afro-Amerikanern als ¿Other¿, also deren marginalisierte Position innerhalb der Gesellschaft, welche daraufhin in der Dynamik mit den weißen Charakteren als Sozialkritik an den in Amerika vorherrschenden Diskurs bezüglich Farbenblindheit (colorblindness), gedeutet wird.
