Libro
Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Original colour illustrated wraps 16x23cm, 70pp English and 70pp Arabic text illustrated throughout with map, many colour photos including royal portrait, and b/w drawings. Covers very good, rubbed to the edges, with price sticker residue; interiors near fine. Undated but another copy viewed is dated March 1989. The Foreword by Kamal Abdulredha Sultan (VP, Historical Association of Oman) references Sultan Qaboos' speech on National Day 1987, and the latest reference in the bibliography is 1988. This book was thus inspired by Sultan Qaboos' wish to revive and encourage traditional handicrafts in Oman. The Historical Association was formed in Muscat in 1972, to encourage the study and preservation of Omani history and archaeology. The author (1933-2002), an Association member, was a weaver who had lived in Oman for 10 years, researching local techniques. Her survey covers livestock and fibres, shearing, spinning, dyeing, weaving, loom types (pit, braid, vertical, ground), patterns, finishing, artefacts, marketing, and buying advice. There is also a glossary. The photos show weaving being done in many traditional settings.
