Neo liberal globalisation and the future world order a third world perspective/B. Mohanan. The Iraq war has made the world further different and complex. It resulted in exposing the strategies of the hegemonic world leadership in the corporate sector supported by the sole super power the United States of America. The preparation process and goals of the war had made it clear that the USA and her very limited allies were not really searching for the Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. Rather the fundamental political economy behind the aggression was the attempt to control the rich oil fields in Iraq. However unlike the Gulf War I the United States found too many European powers unwilling to support the expedition. Similarly leading Third World Nations like India Brazil and China expressed their objections to the war. The net experience of the war clearly revealed that unipolarism will not survive long and the United States will have to address the realities of the emerging multilateral system. 256 pp.

Given this reality and adhocism in work environment the future of a Gulf Emigrant is always on a tight rope. They face the basic challenge of rehabilitation in the home state sooner or later. What exactly is the role of government in addressing this issue. What are the tasks of political parties and civil society in helping these people who contributed to the economic development of the home state. These are the major concerns of this work. This work is an attempt to study the gravity of the problem of Gulf returnees. Policy alternatives essential for the state and central governments are also presented in the work. 208 pp.

The rigid social and hierarchical structure unfinished agenda of land reforms challenges of casteism and communalism Criminalisation of politics problems of gender participation slow pace of electoral reforms challenges of federalism coalition politics and party system rise of terrorism etc are some of the major issues affecting the future course of parliamentary democracy in India. In fact the debate cannot be narrowly focused to the structural and legal aspects of parliamentary form of government. In the meanwhile India embraced the neo liberal agenda and entered the stream of globalization process. This raises further questions of interfacing a developing democracy with the challenges of globalization. The problems relating to bio diversity traditional knowledge rights of poor farmers and above all the role of civil society are crucial here. The volume presents the problems and potentialities of Indian democracy in the era of globalization and liberalization. 366 pp.

Dimensions of understanding religious phenomenon. 3. The quest of transcending barriers. Appendices. Index. This is a pioneering study of the ongoing movement of interfaith dialogues between world religions coming out of their excluvist shell to play a positive role as quintessential religion in improving the quality of human life. Like modern science and technology having contributed enormously to the betterment of the quality of material life religion as a science of soul is called upon to play its role to promote true happiness of mankind. The book underlines the potential role of religion provided it does not remain bogged down in dogmas rituals and cumbersome and traditional paraphernalia which divide rather than unite mankind. The book focuses attention on the concept purpose functions and those higher aspects of religion which account for its hold world over and the trends of growing scientific interest in religion as the repository of wisdom notwithstanding its intermittent misuse and abuse. It goes on to throw light on various dimensions of religious phenomenon its diversity emerging synthetic trends and various efforts undertaken in several conclaves of leaders of thought and of religious faiths and socio political life for interfaith dialogue with the goal of promoting understanding respect and cooperation between world religions. The author lays stress upon the current forces propelling a tide of transcending all traditional barriers of mutual exclusiveness and on the prospects of world religions joining hands together for the good of mankind. 218 pp.

The book is a study of the movement of Muslim regeneration started by Sayyid Ahmad Khan after 1858. The movement took a final shape after Sayyid Ahmad's return from England in 1870. The movement has been called the Aligarh movement because its headquarters were established at Aligarh. A study of the movement provides the answer to the question why did we not develop into a homogeneous nation and why did the Indian Muslims generally speaking support a path different from that of the other communities of India. The study of the movement helps us to understand the history of modern India in an objective manner. The book is based on a scientific study of the original contemporary sources. These are preserved at Aligarh. The Aligarh Institute Gazette the Tahzib ul Akhlaq the proceedings of the annual meetings of the Muhammadan Educational Conference the proceedings of the meetings of the Trustees of the MAO College the board of management of the college and Sir Sayyid Memorial Fund Association the annual reports of the college the Aligarh College magazine and the government records in the national archives of India have been copiously consulted in the preparation of the book. The book had originally been published in 1965. The persistent pressure of friends and scholars has persuaded the author to bring out a revised and enlarged edition of the original work. The Aligarh movement was to bring about a regeneration of the Indian Muslims. Its main object was to assiduously advocate loyalty of the Muslims for the British rulers of India and to organize them as a community to play a dominant role in the political life of the country. For this it was essential to persuade the Muslim Ashraf to take to the western system of education and equip themselves with qualifications essential for the high posts open for the Indians. The second stage was to organize the Muslim minority under the leadership of the Ashraf to put forward their claims for a self image which was different from the national concept. The basis for a separate identity of the Indian Muslims was prepared by the movement. 350 pp.
