Underwood, F. M. United Italy. With twenty-one illustrations. Port Washington, NY: Kennikat Press, 1970, xiv, 360pp., very good green cloth. First published in 1912. A history of Italy from 1870 "written by one who has lived for some years I the country, associating with Italians of all classes, and trying to understand their point of view". The author seems to have produced this book and nothing else, and with the intention of informing Americans and Englishmen who have marvelled at the picturesque Italy of ruins and poverty about the new "self-reliant" country.
