The new theoretical results are connected with the proposed united approach to the proof of regularizing properties of the "classical" iteration methods (steepest descent, conjugate direction) complemented by the stopping rule depending on the level of errors in the input data. Much emphasis is given to the choice of the iteration index as the regularization parameter and to the rate convergence estimates of the approximate solutions. The concept of information is here defined mathematically by adding this postulate to the axioms of the probability theory. The law of diminishing information is founded on a fusion of two fundamental ideas: Carnap and Bar-Hillel's "Ideal Receiver" and Shannon's "Noisy Channel". This "law" has been applied to information technology, game theory, legislation, logic of research, algorithmic information, chaos theory, control engineering, medical tests, and biological evolution. In physics, both the second law of thermodynamics and Schrodinger's wave function are derived from the law of diminishing information. Conventional information theory, that of telecommunications, is analyzed as a special case, and eight conditions for its applicability are listed.

The primary data for the claim of locality at LF is drawn from Hindi but English data is used in discussing the semantics of questions and relative clauses. This volume takes a cross-linguistic perspective showing how the Hindi and English facts can be brought to bear on the theory of universal grammar. There are several phenomena generally thought to involve long-distance dependencies at LF, such as scope marking, long-distance list answers and correlatives. In this book they are handled by explicating novel types of local relationships that interrogative and relative clauses can enter. A more articulated semantics is shown leading to a simpler syntax. Among other issues addressed is the switch from uniqueness/maximality effects in single WH constructions to list readings in multiple WH constructions. These effects are captured by adapting the treatment of WH expressions as quantifying over functions to the cases of multiple WH questions and correlatives.List readings due to functional dependencies are systematically distinguished from those that are based on plurality. For instance, the third generation cellular mobile systems should offer a high data rate up to two Mbit/s for video, audio, speech and data transmission.
