With this, institutions have been established to formalize water services: licensed water service providers (WSPs) in large towns; a national WSP regulator namely the Water Services Regulatory Board; and a WSP pro-poor financier namely the Water Services Trust Fund. This study assesses the influence of formalized water provision on the quality of life of urban slum dwellers. It explores the perceived impacts of an operational pilot water project implemented in 2009 by Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company in Kosovo village of Mathare slum, with funding from the Water Services Trust Fund. Variables under review in the study are affordability of water, access to water, quality of water and the water utility's pro-poor focus in water provision. Purposive sampling technique was used.400 samples were selected.The data was collected and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. 12.8% of the respondents had good knowledge,37.5% had average knowledge and 49.8% of respondents had poor knowledge.The mean knowledge of the total sample according to selected demographic variables is 49.06% which is average according to the score card. The initial sample of 100 companies was divided into a 70% estimation (training) sample and a 30% holdout (test) sample for the following 4 data sets: First-year data set to predict failure, a second-year data set for a 2 year-ahead prediction, third-year data for a 3 year-ahead prediction, as well as cumulative three-year data to predict distress 1 year ahead by letting the ratios vary in time. The aims of this study were therefore (1) to describe factors that influence risk for HIV infection in a Utah-based Burundi refugee population and (2) explore relationship between Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavior/Practices (KABP) in order design targeted HIV/AIDS prevention interventions for the population. Results were controlled for known confounders. Attitude towards HIV/AIDS (b = 0.5071, p 0.001) was a significant predictor of HIV/AIDS knowledge. Behavior/ practices were strongly associated with knowledge, attitudes, self-efficacy, gender, and household size. Overall, men were more knowledgeable than women and had higher self-efficacy.
