The first part of the research consists of a literature study comparing the existing evidence on the effects of microfinance on women empowerment. The second part, a field study, was performed by comparing two groups of microloan receivers from Indian NGO Prime Trust, consisting of 66 women in total. The first group was at the time of measurement in the process of repaying their first loan, while the second group was in the process of repaying their second loan and had already completed their first. The women were compared on their empowerment scores with a questionnaire, measured with eight indicators created by Hashemi, et al. (1996). Present study was undertaken with a view to measuring overall QWL and job satisfaction of shift workers of textile mills in Bangladesh. A sample of 60 shift workers were drawn from two textile mills. Major findings based on data are: Significant number of respondents had higher perception of QWL. There was no significant influence of personal factors on QWL, on performance or on job satisfaction. Overall QWL was positively correlated with workers'' performance and job satisfaction, and negatively correlated with absenteeism and accidents. Job satisfaction was positively correlated with performance. There was no joint effect of shift system and type of industry on perception of QWL. There was no joint effect of shift system and type of industry on job satisfaction. Perception of QWL and job satisfaction were significantly higher among private sector workers than those of public sector workers. Results revealed similarity with and variation from research done with the U. S. samples. Not all of the family-of-origin variables that were found to be significant in predicting relationship quality for U.S. couples were significant for Albanian couples. Significance was found only between father-child relationship and females'' relationship quality, as well as between overall evaluation of family processes and females'' relationship satisfaction. The overall effects of the Albanian family-of-origin variables were significant in predicting females'' relationship satisfaction and males'' relationship stability. It is suggested that explanations of the findings are rooted on cultural differences.
