Amidst this discussion, the Christian exclusivist claims that the tenets of Christianity are true, and mutually exclusive religious views are false. Opponents of Christian belief argue, however, that the diversity of mutually exclusive religious beliefs is a good reason to give up one's Christian exclusivism. This is the problem of religious diversity for Christian exclusivism. In this book, Joseph Kim defends Christian belief in conversation with the problem of religious diversity and argues that mutually exclusive religious beliefs do not serve as defeaters for Christian belief.Kim engages Alvin Plantinga's proper function account of warrant and argues that the Christian exclusivist need not give up her Christian belief when faced with the problem of religious diversity even when she is unable to give an argument for the truth of Christian belief to those that disagree. This book also explores the areas surrounding the problem of religious diversity and serves as a good introduction to the central issues that intersect contemporary epistemology and the philosophy of religion. 126 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -It has been almost fifty years since theological educators first began talking about contextual theology. Today, in every country of the global South, their home schools require them to contextualize theological education and construct contextual theologies that would be helpful for their local churches. In spite of this expectation there are few helps available. The expectation is clear, but an understanding of the process by which this may occur is lacking. Educators often complain that they are led to adapt Western theology to their context rather than developing theology for their churches. Arguments for contextual theology are proposed often, but there has been little debate explaining and defending the methods involved. This book is intended to enter that debate and invite others who should help appreciate the gravity of our situation and join the conversation. The epicenter of Christianity has shifted to the global South. Yet, contextual theology, which seeks to preserve the integrity of the faith, has not been met with generosity among scholars in the US and Europe. This book intends to forge helpful bridges that encourage mutual regard to develop among scholars across the globe. The bubble of the Western academy needs to be breached. 148 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book is an attempt at a critical, constructive, and creative theological praxis of social transformation in Africa. The authors apply a multi-disciplinary approach to examining how Christianity in Africa is engaging the problems of Africa's challenging social context. This is a prophetic work that applies the symbols of ''salt'' and ''light'' as ecclesiological images for reenvisioning the path towards procuring abundant life for God's people in the African continent through the agency of African Christianity. The contributors to this volume ask these fundamental questions: What is the face of Jesus in African Christianity What is the face and identity of the Church in Africa How can one evaluate the relevance of the Church in Africa to African Christians who enthusiastically embrace and celebrate their Christian faith In other words, what positive imprint is Christianity leaving on the lives and societies of African Christians Does the Christian message have the potential of positively affecting African civilization as it once did in Europe What is the relevance and place of African Christianity as a significant voice in shaping both the future of Africa and that of world Christianity 194 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Is America a Christian nation This question has loomed large in American culture since the Puritans arrived on American shores in the early seventeenth century. More recently, the Christian America thesis has been advocated by many evangelical leaders across the denominational spectrum. This book contributes to the conversation by critiquing, from an evangelical perspective, the idea that America is a Christian nation as articulated by specific writers over the past three decades. Wilsey asserts that the United States was not conceived as a Christian nation, but as a nation with religious liberty. Herein lies the genius of the Founders and the uniqueness of America. 226 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -What does the Wesleyan message have to say to the greater theological world This is a question that Laurence Wood has taken up as his concern throughout his career. In order to honor his work, this collection takes up this question through a series of essays designed to show how Wesleyan Theology, while distinctive, has a continued relevance to the wider world of theological scholarship. This collection does this in two ways. First, by showing how the Wesleyan distinctives have been present throughout the history of theology. And secondly, the collection brings the Wesleyan distinctives into conversation with various contemporary theological conversations, ranging from theological hermeneutics and the science-religion dialogue to the practice of preaching and spirituality. The result is a volume that puts Wesleyan theology into continued dialogue with the broader theological world, showing its vitality and importance for the contemporary situation.''The Continuing Relevance of Wesleyan Theology offers a treasure trove of new resources for the contemporary interpretation and reinterpretation of the Wesleyan theological and spiritual tradition . . . Scholars as well as reflective practitioners of the Wesleyan tradition will find in this volume a series of interesting new historical as well as theological perspectives that will move forward our contemporary reception of the Wesleyan spiritual and theological heritage. Thanks be to God for the contributions of Laurence Wood and his own interpreters who have brought us this rich volume.''Ted A. CampbellAssociate Professor of Church HistoryPerkins School of Theology''For the past three decades, whether he is writing about a historical figure like John Fletcher or a contemporary theologian such as Wolfhart Pannenberg, Larry Wood's passion and purpose has always remained the same: to deepen and enhance Wesleyan theology both by furthering its own historical self-understanding and broadening its dialogue with contemporary theology, philosophy, and science. These essays-written by friends, colleagues, and former students-are a fitting tribute to Larry because they so clearly reflect his lifelong concern and richly contribute to it.
