Softcover. Condizione: Good. Maria Montessori (1870 - 1952) was an Italian educator who developed an educational system based on child development. Her schools deal primarily with preschool and early elementary aged children. Her method is characterized by an emphasis on self-directed activity on the part of the child and clinical observation on the part of the teacher. The learning environment must be adapted to the maturity level of the child. New concepts are taught using autodidactic (self-correcting) equipment). In this way a child's mistake is caught immediately instead of the child doing an activity and not getting feedback until a later time. Montessori teachers stock their classrooms with nature shelves, living plants and small pets, or perhaps a window sill garden, allowing children to experience as much of the natural world as possible given modern constraints. The class may have a three year age span thus allowing for ranges in development and social levels. Spontaneous Activity in Education covers a wide range of topics from child development, to setting up a classroom and training teachers, social issues, and educational philosophy.

Cloth. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. R. F. Neale (illustratore). This is an essential handbook for all who own or contemplate acquiring a car in need of restoration, since the general description and precepts apply to cars of any make or date. In particular, they apply to cars of the inter-war period. In these pages, the reader is advised on the choice of a car to restore, its dismantling, the treatment of the frame, suspension, steering, axles, brakes and wheels, and on the rebuilding of the engine and gear box. Further chapters deal with the other systems that make up the car. Included are photographs, numerous illustrations, and index. This copy is clean and solid.

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. A must for the bookshelf of any car enthusiast. Per its jacket, "This practical manual has been written for the car-owner who is already a competent driver under normal road conditions but who would like to be a better-than-average driver, and especially for the man who wishes to try his hand at competition work -- both racing and rallying. Paul Frere -- Grand Prix driver and engineer, Le Mans winner and author -- gives invaluable instruction based on his many years of experience on the racing circuits of Europe and America." Only date on copyright page is "First published 1963" so this is the original edition, but it is a 1976 printing based on the publication date of the book advertised on its jacket back flap. This book is in near fine condition, marred only by traces of wear at top and bottom of the spine, plus very light bumps on the bottom corners. Its binding is sound and square. Covers are unmarked and otherwise unworn, with bright gilt titles. Pages are unmarked and unworn. Not a remainder. Its jacket is in very good+ condition: whole, bright and unmarked, with light wear at top and bottom of spine and on corners. As with all Space Age Book purchases, I will ship this book in a moisture proof zip-loc bag, padded in bubble wrap, inside a sturdy box to assure it reaches its proud new owner in the same condition as my description.
