Libro Prima edizione
Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Minor edge and corner wear; lightly scuffed and scratched; spine is gently creased; some light shelf wear; overall a very crisp and clean used copy! Full-color pictorial wrapper with red and black lettering. 160 very clean unmarked and uncreased historical and informative pages nicely enhanced by black and white and full-color photographs and illustrations! "Out of the Mist celebrates the art, culture and history of the Nuu-chah-nulth (formerly called Nootka) nations. It features the material culture?including many major art pieces?of the richly complex societies along the west coast of Vancouver Island and the Olympic Peninsula. With the help of many Nuu-chah-nulth voices, Martha Black places the objects in context with the cultures and histories of the people who created them. HuupuKwanum and Tupaat are Nuu-chah-nulth words that designate everything a chief owns, including hereditary names and songs, objects, dances, rights and privileges, lands, and resources. These concepts introduce non-aboriginal people to the profound philosophical, spiritual and personal connections that these objects have always had within Nuu-chah-nulth communities. Winner of the British Columbia Millennium 2000 Book Award.".

First Printing; Paperback. Condizione: New. First Edition. B&W Illustrations & maps; 8.3 X 5.8 X 0.4 inches; 134 pages; Soft cover has white spine with gold lettering. Illustrated with b/w pictures and map.' "Our well beloved dead who died that we might live." In the town of Merritt, in British Columbia's Nicola Valley, stands a granite cenotaph erected in memory of 44 men who died soldiering in the First World War. Those men came from a Nicola Valley that had been suddenly and dramatically settled just a decade before by the will of railway executives and the arrival of British colliers. Twelve of those soldiers are the subject of these pages--and through them, we meet the men, women and children of the Nicola Valley, the dead and their survivors: the people who built and were built by a Canadian community that was also distinctly British Columbian. Softcover. Condizione: Very Good+. First Edition. Card covers show light edge wear. Prev. owner's name stamped inside front and back covers. ; A bright, solid book.; B&W Illustrations; 8.90 X 5.80 X 0.70 inches; 239 pages; "Gerry Andrews (1903 - 2005) had many adventures in his 102 years. He was a rural school teacher, a forester, a soldier and a surveyor. His developments in aerial photography dramatically changed forestry in BC in the late 1930s and assisted the Allies in the D-Day landings. He referred to the process of mapping the landscape in an airplane as ploughing photographic furrows up and down the sky at 16,000 feet. As BC's surveyor-general from 1951 to 1968, he supervised the mapping of the provinces large construction projects, often usual aerial photography.During all this time, he saw most of BC and made many friends along the way. Surveyors in the field looked forward to his visits because he always had a kind word, a genuine interest in their work, and a red flannel sock containing a bottle of hooch. In Furrows in the Sky, historian Jay Sherwood tells the story of this mans remarkable life, based on his personal correspondence, unpublished manuscripts and diaries, interviews with people who knew him, and published articles by and about him. The book includes a selection of the many photographs that Andrews took during his adventures. ".
