Da: Wittenborn Art Books, San Francisco, CA, U.S.A.
Condizione: Good. 140 x 190 mm (5.5 x 7.5 in.). Landscape format. [19] pp. Gilt stamped paper covered boards, accordion fold-out style in gift box, printed bottom and acetate top, shrink-wrapped. During the period 1885-1895, before the advent of the automobile and of picture postcards, there was a style of souvenir view book, which used a combination of stone lithography, photography and artisanship to produce a distinctive style that has not been duplicated. The Circa 1890 series of view books has given a new life to this style of souvenir volumes, transforming them into gift items that are beautifully printed, bound and packaged. The production of this project has been taking place for the past several years and the first two view books in the series are being released in early 2013. They are view books of Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, California. These will be followed by other North American cities. These are ideal products for museum gift shops, easy to display with their string covers, boxed in acetate and printed boards and shrink wrapped. New.

Libro Print on Demand
Condizione: Good. CD-R. 147 pp. All states fully illustrated in color. When historian Wesley Johnston sought solid information about the original prints of the French Impressionist Berthe Morisot (1841-1895), he found radically conflicting information. Even the chronology of editions of the artist's prints by Janine Bailly-Herzberg, published in 1979 in Gazette des Beaux-Arts, which has been the standard reference, is inaccurate. Johnston's catalogue now provides the missing details so the collector can distinguish one state or one edition from another and know which are early and which are later impressions. Five years of research went into the book, seeking the answers to the questions that collectors ask about an artist's ?uvre: finding and evaluating all prior catalogues; obtaining information on the artist's prints in public collections around the world; finding contemporary accounts of the editions; comparing and evaluating the visual characteristics of many impressions from the same plate; compiling a definitive list of the physical characteristics of the different editions. As part of the research, Johnston created a preliminary catalogue raisonné of the monographs on the Impressionists by Théodore Duret (1838-1927), since several of them contain original Morisot prints as well as works by her contemporaries such as Renoir, Cézanne and Pissarro. No one had catalogued Duret's books before even though these are a major source of original - although posthumously printed - graphics by the Impressionists. Johnston provides collectors with definitive answers to their questions about Morisot's prints: How many plates? How many states? How many editions? How many impressions? What are characteristics of the editions? Which watermarks were on the prints? This item is printed on demand and provided on a CD-R.

Prima edizione
Condizione: Good. 2nd edition. 9-1/8 x 12-1/4 inches. 23 x 31 cm. Cloth in dust jacket. 304 pages. 666 works described and reproduced. 8 color plates. This second edition of Spanish Civil War is published in January 2013. There are now 304 pages as opposed to 288 pages in the first edition of 1997, with 8 new color plates. There are many corrections, additions and revisions. The military uprising against the socialist Popular Front ?Republican? government in Spain begins in July of 1936. The Republican government makes Picasso the honorary director of the Prado in September, one month before his 55th birthday and just two months before the museum is bombed by the ?Nationalist? Franco forces and evacuated. During the first quarter of the year in Paris, Picasso primarily paints portraits of his lover Marie Thérèse; still-lifes, often with a pitcher; sharp edged morphic studies and portraits of Dora Maar. In April he sketches an artist and model series and a minotaur in a still-life. On April 26, 1937 the German allies of the Nationalists destroy the Basque town of Guernica. Picasso begins working immediately on his own Guernica project that same afternoon, forgoing his typical weekend, spent with Marie Thérèse and their 20-month-old daughter, Maya. During May and early June, Picasso creates 53 studies and paintings for Guernica, culminating in the final version on June 4. During June and July in Paris, Picasso draws and paints a series of weeping women one of which is the woman from Guernica. He spends the summer in Mougins, painting portraits of his female companions, Nusch Eluard and Lee Miller as a surreal L'Arlésienne. There are also distorted images of a woman with a harlot-like grin. During the fall in Paris, Picasso paints two-sided views of his new lover Dora Maar; a series of weeping women; and of Marie Thérèse. By October, all of northern Spain has fallen to the Nationalists. In March, Picasso begins a series of two-sided views of a woman with prominent nostrils and continues these in April and May. During the summer in Mougins, he creates a series of a male with lollipop and ice cream cones. During the fall in Paris, Picasso paints a still-life with a bull and artist's palette, in which the bull seems to be the artist. In January, 1939, there are two-sided profiles of a woman, mainly Marie Thérèse, reclining on her elbow and then reclining full-length. A woman in a chair appears on January 21 and this motif continues through March. The still-life with the pitcher or bull's head reappears. The Spanish Civil War ends on April 1, 1939, with the victory of the Franco Nationalists. Tens of thousands of Republicans flee to France and North Africa. The celebrated painting Night Fishing in Antibes is Picasso's last work before the German invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939 and the beginning of WWII.

Prima edizione Copia autografata
Condizione: Good. 2nd edition. 9-1/8 x 12-1/4 inches. 23 x 31 cm. Cloth in dust-jacket. 272 pages. 850 works described and reproduced. 8 color plates. This second edition of Europe at War, 1939-1940 was published in January, 2013. There are now 272 pages as opposed to 248 pages in the first edition of 1998, with 8 new color plates. There are numerous corrections, additions and revisions. Titles are made more descriptive and when a number of works in a series have the same title, they are numbered sequentially, to facilitate referencing a work with the same title in the same chronological series. Some works were inadvertently omitted from the first edition, which had been included in Zervos or in the Musée Picasso catalogues. These are now included. A number of works formerly in the collection of Marie-Thérèse Walter, unknown to Zervos, were also not included in the first edition. These were first described and reproduced in the 1973 exhibition catalogue Une Collection Picasso by the Galerie Jan Krugier in Genève. Some of these have seen been subsequently resold at public auctions and the sales are noted. Many entries have been updated in light of descriptions at public sales at the major auction houses since 1999, as well as from museum exhibition catalogues. The most important auctions were those of the collection of Dora Maar (born Henriette Theodora Markovitch (November 22, 1907 ? July 16, 1997), Picasso's companion from 1936 to 1943. The Maar auctions were held in Paris on October 27, 28 and 29, 1998. The sale of Oct. 27-28 had the title Les Picasso de Dora Maar and the one on Oct. 29 had the title Les Livres de Dora Maar, Autographes et Documents. The sales were conducted by PIASA and J. K. Mathias at the Maison de la Chimie, under the sub-title: Succession de Madame Markovitch. Dora Maar apparently kept the works that Picasso gave her to the end of her life and she had a vast collection. Works from these sales are designated as either Maar Succession or Maar Livres. The Maar Succession sale included numerous small unique mixed media works and paper cut-outs. There are also sculpture and drawings on unusual materials, including bone, terracotta and matchbox lids and bottoms.
