The author of this book tells from her own practical experience how best to fit a pond into any garden, great or small, how actually to dig it and to set the required levels, how to lay bricks and mix the concrete, how to provide the water supply and the necessary overflows and draining outlets. To keep healthy fish in one's pond is a relatively simple matter provided that certain well-established rules are obeyed. These are clearly set out and there is ample advice on the provision og water plants to harbour nourishment. The author tells how to provide constructural details allowing space for al manner of delightful pond plants and waterside flowers. The beautiful illustrations display most of the available fish and plants in full colour. Cloth. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fair. First Edition. Hardback. First Edition. Lake and Loch Fishing. Wear and tear to edge of D/J. Couple of small pieces of D/J. missing. From experience the author learned that a working knowledge of the character and habits of insect life, and a knowledge of the trout and his 'six' senses added not only to the pleasures of fly-fishing but increased the chances of good sport. So in this book he has dealt, in a very pleasant and lucid style, qwith these subjects and many others, such as the theoretical aspects of the rise; the topographical features of the lake and their significance to the angler; the effect of surface winds and the advantages of anchoring or drifting whilst fishing from a boat. Methods of casting, and of hooking and playing the trout under varying weather conditions are discussed. Some of the problems, perhaps, will be new to fishermen who have never pondered on the effects of fluorescence and refraction of light on the fish themselves. A great deal of thought has been expended in adapting scientific principles to simple practical rules. This is a book which should add much to the interest of the fly-fisher's art. Illustrated. 256 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.).

Libro Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. No Jacket. First Edition First Printing. In a series of books dedicated to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales (who would become King Edward VIII), this volume is a comprehensive summary, with contributions by various hunters, of big game hunting across different regions of Africa, arranged by geographical section. Preliminary chapters cover equipment, safety, skinning, dangerous prey, & medical information. Written for the British elite in an era which glorified the killing of defenseless animals in the service of man's ego, it offered this codicil: "Kill fairly & sparingly" not for any humane reason, but "that the Big Game of the world may survive to give sport to those who come after." We find it hard to find anything redeeming here, but if it's your cup of tea, this is a FIRST EDITION from 1932, in 445 pages with map endpapers + 150 black-and-white photographs throughout the text. Hardcover octavo in tan publisher's cloth stamped with a gilt crown & "L" insignia to front & spine, title in gilt to spine. Condition is Near Fine: very clean, sewn binding strong & straight, stitching secure, pages very light tanned but completely unmarked. Mild rubbing to extremities, lightly bumped corners. A few pages (317-327) have a slight dent to fore edge side near bottom. No DJ, likely as issued.
