Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book grew out of a series of lectures given at the Mathematics Department of Kyushu University in the Fall 2006, within the support of the 21st Century COE Program (2003-2007) 'Development of Dynamical Mathematics with High Fu- tionality' (Program Leader: prof. Mitsuhiro Nakao). It was initially published as the Kyushu University COE Lecture Note n- ber 8 (COE Lecture Note, 8. Kyushu University, The 21st Century COE Program 'DMHF', Fukuoka, 2008. vi+234 pp.), and in the present form is an extended v- sion of it (in particular, I have added a section dedicated to the Maslov index). The book is intended as a rapid (though not so straightforward) pseudodiff- ential introduction to the spectral theory of certain systems, mainly of the form a +a where the entries of a are homogeneous polynomials of degree 2 in the 2 0 2 n n (x, )-variables, (x, ) R×R,and a is a constant matrix, the so-called non- 0 commutative harmonic oscillators, with particular emphasis on a class of systems introduced by M. Wakayama and myself about ten years ago. The class of n- commutative harmonic oscillators is very rich, and many problems are still open, and worth of being pursued. 260 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The International Gesture Workshops (GW) are interdisciplinary events for those researching gesture-based communication across the disciplines. The focus of these events is a shared interest in understanding gestures and sign language in their many facets, and using them for advancing human-machine interaction. Since 1996, International Gesture Workshops have been held roughly every second year, with fully reviewed proceedings published by Springer. The International Gesture Workshop GW 2009 was hosted by Bielefeld University's Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF - Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Forschung) during February 25-27, 2009. Like its predecessors, GW 2009 aimed to provide a platform for participants to share, discuss, and criticize recent and novel research with a multidisciplinary audience. More than 70 computer scientists, linguistics, psychologists, neuroscientists as well as dance and music scientists from 16 countries met to present and exchange their newest results under the umbrella theme 'Gesture in Embodied Communication and Human-Computer Interaction. ' Consistent with the steady growth of research activity in this area, a large number of high-quality submissions were received, which made GW 2009 an exciting and important event for anyone interested in gesture-related technological research relevant to human-computer interaction. In line with the practice of previous gesture workshops, presenters were invited to submit theirs papers for publication in a subsequent peer-reviewed publication of high quality. The present book is the outcome of this effort. Representing the research work from eight countries, it contains a selection of 28 thoroughly reviewed articles. 352 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Search computing, which has evolved from service computing, focuses on building the answers to complex search queries by interacting with a constellation of cooperating search services, using ranking and joining of results as the dominant factors for service composition. The field is multi-disciplinary in nature, and takes advantage of contributions from other research areas such as knowledge representation, human-computer interfaces, psychology, sociology, economics and legal sciences. The book is divided into three parts. The first part includes some visionary contributions on the latest trends in search, which is becoming increasingly task-oriented and is starting to use ontological knowledge in order to manage complex queries. The second part explores background and related technologies, which can be considered as parallel fields of research, useful both for setting the theoretical premises for search computing and for providing a technological framework for building search computing systems and applications. The third part delves into the conceptual and technological problems and issues arising when dealing with search computing as a new search paradigm. It provides a unified view of the results of the Search Computing project as achieved exactly one year after its starting date. 336 pp. Englisch.

The expected ubiquity of sensors in the near future, combined with the cr- ical roles they are expected to play in high-priority application solutions, points to an era of unprecedented growth and opportunities. The main motivation for the Sensor-KDD series of workshops stems from the increasing need for a forum to exchange ideas and recent research results, and to facilitate coll- oration and dialog between academia, government, and industrial stakeho- ers. This is clearly re ected in the successful organization of the rst workshop alongwiththe ACMKDD-2007conference,whichwasattendedbymorethanseventyregistered participants, and resulted in an edited book (CRC Press, ISBN-9781420082326, 2008), and a special issue in the Intelligent Data Analysis journal (Volume 13, Number 3, 2009). 240 pp. Englisch.

The BIS conference series has been recognised by professionals from its very beginning as a forum for the exchange and dissemination of topical research in the development, - plementation, application and improvement of computer systems for business processes. The theme ofthe conferencewas Future InternetBusiness Services. A n- ber of new initiatives are already underway to address the challenges related to explosive development of Internet applications, hence the conference topics: Searchand KnowledgeSharing,Data and InformationSecurity,Web Experience Modelling. Although many people announced that SOA was dead there is - doubtedly a strong need for service-orientation. This was addressed by a topic: Services and Repositories. More and more e ort is put on explaining and und- standing complex processes as could be seen in topics: Business Processes and Rules, Data Mining for Processes, Visualisation in BPM. Finally, the classical business aspects were covered in session: ERP and SCM. Altogether, a set of 25 papers illustrating these trends were selected for the presentation during the main event, grouped in 8 sessions. The Program C- mittee consisted of almost 100 members who carefully evaluated all the subm- ted papers. Each submission was reviewed on the average by 3.1 programme committee members. Only the best quality papers were selected, resulting in an acceptance rate of less than 30%. 320 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The past decade has seen tremendous growth in the demand for biometrics and data security technologies in applications ranging from law enforcement and immigration control to online security. The benefits of biometrics technologies are apparent as they become important technologies for information security of governments, business enterprises, and individuals. At the same time, however, the use of biometrics has raised concerns as to issues of ethics, privacy, and the policy implications of its wi- spread use. The large-scale deployment of biometrics technologies in e-governance, e-security, and e-commerce has required that we launch an international dialogue on these issues, a dialogue that must involve key stakeholders and that must consider the legal, poli- cal, philosophical and cultural aspects of the deployment of biometrics technologies. The Third International Conference on Ethics and Policy of Biometrics and Inter- tional Data Sharing was highly successful in facilitating such interaction among - searchers, policymakers, consumers, and privacy groups. This conference was supported and funded as part of the RISE project in its ongoing effort to develop wide consensus and policy recommendations on ethical, medical, legal, social, cultural, and political concerns in the usage of biometrics and data security technologies. The - tential concerns over the deployment of biometrics systems can be jointly addressed by developing smart biometrics technologies and by developing policies for the - ployment of biometrics technologies that clearly demarcate conflicts of interest - tween stakeholders. 184 pp. Englisch.

Each paper for the main conference was assigned four reviewers, taking into account preferences expressed by the ProgramCommittee members as much as possible. Within the review deadline, we received at least three reviews for almost all submissions. After the review deadline, the Conference Organizing Committee members and the Program Committee Chair acted as meta-reviewers. This task included studying the reviews and the papers, speci cally those whose assessment made them borderline cases, and discussing con icting opinions and their impact on theassessmentofindividualpapers.Finally,themeta-reviewerswroteadditiona l reviews for the few papers which received less than three reviews, as well as for papers which received reviews with considerably con icting assessments. 336 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The portable device and mobile phone market has witnessed rapid growth in the last few years with the emergence of several revolutionary products such as mobile TV, converging iPhone and digital cameras that combine music, phone and video functionalities into one device. The proliferation of this market has further bene ted from the competition in software and applications for smart phones such as Google's Android operating system and Apple's iPhone App- Store, stimulating tens of thousands of mobile applications that are made ava- able by individual and enterprise developers. Whereas the mobile device has become ubiquitous in people's daily life not only as a cellular phone but also as a media player, a mobile computing device, and a personal assistant, it is p- ticularly important to address challenges timely in applying advanced pattern recognition, signal, information and multimedia processing techniques, and new emerging networking technologies to such mobile systems. The primary objective of this book is to foster interdisciplinary discussions and research in mobile multimedia processing techniques, applications and s- tems, as well as to provide stimulus to researchers on pushing the frontier of emerging new technologies and applications. One attempt on such discussions was the organization of the First Int- national Workshop of Mobile Multimedia Processing (WMMP 2008), held in Tampa, Florida, USA, on December 7, 2008. About 30 papers were submitted from10countriesacrosstheUSA,Asia andEurope. 304 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Inductive programming is concerned with the automated construction of decl- ative often functional recursiveprogramsfromincompletespeci cationssuch as input/output examples. The inferred program must be correct with respect to the provided examples in a generalizing sense: it should be neither equivalent to it, nor inconsistent. Inductive programming algorithms are guided explicitly or implicitly by a language bias (the class of programs that can be induced) and a search bias (determining which generalized program is constructed rst). Induction strategiesare either generate-and-testor example-driven.In genera- and-test approaches, hypotheses about candidate programs are generated in- pendently from the given speci cations. Program candidates are tested against the given speci cation and one or more of the best evaluated candidates are - veloped further. In analytical approaches, candidate programs are constructed in an example-driven way. While generate-and-test approaches can in prin- ple construct any kind of program, analytical approaches have a more limited scope. On the other hand, e ciency of induction is much higher in analytical approaches. Inductive programming is still mainly a topic of basic research, exploring how the intellectual ability of humans to infer generalized recursive procedures from incomplete evidence can be captured in the form of synthesis methods. Intended applications are mainly in the domain of programming assistance either to relieve professional programmers from routine tasks or to enable n- programmers to some limited form of end-user programming. Furthermore, in future, inductiveprogrammingtechniquesmightbe appliedtofurtherareassuch as support inference of lemmata in theorem proving or learning grammar rules. 208 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The present book includes a set of selected papers from the First International Conf- ence on Agents and Artificial Intelligence (ICAART 2009), held in Porto, Portugal, during January 19-21, 2009. The conference was organized in two simultaneous tracks: 'Artificial Intelligence and Agents.' The book is based on the same structure. ICAART 2009 received 161 paper submissions, from more than 37 different co- tries in all continents. After a blind review process, only 26 where accepted as full papers, of which 21 were selected for inclusion in this book, based on the classifi- tions provided by the Program Committee. The selected papers reflect the interdis- plinary nature of the conference. The diversity of topics is an important feature of this conference, enabling an overall perception of several important scientific and tech- logical trends. These high-quality standards will be maintained and reinforced at ICAART 2010, to be held in Valencia, Spain, and in future editions of this conf- ence. Furthermore, ICAART 2009 included five plenary keynote lectures given by Juan Carlos Augusto (University of Ulster), Marco Dorigo (IRIDIA, Free University of Brussels), Timo Honkela (Helsinki University of Technology), Edward H. Shortliffe (Arizona State University) and Paulo Urbano (University of Lisbon). We would like to express our appreciation to all of them and in particular to those who took the time to contribute with a paper to this book. 312 pp. Englisch.
