"When John Remmers' young son died, the world collapsed around him. He and his wife Emily suffered the deep anguish which only bereaved parents can know. But their 'dead' boy was determined to make himself known from his new environment, to prove he was still very much alive. Slowly, cautiously and at first sceptically, Remmers began to investigate psychic phenomena. A respected and well-known engineer, he had the qualities of a researcher. He was not to be fooled by fraud or misled by credulity. This chronicle is a 'true record' of first-hand evidence." ~~John Remmers.

In this book the attitude of the Churches to mediumship is critically examined, and the true relationship between the Bible and spirit communication is fully explained. Communication with the spirit world through mediumship was the accepted practice of the early Christian Church. It is not so today, and this book explains the reason. Priests quote the seers and prophets of bygone days as the divine authority for their teachings, but the idea of continued revelation in these times is almost anathema to them. Yet mediumship has existed in all ages, and revelation from the spirit world through mediumship is the basis of all religions.

Hardcover. Condizione: Poor. Condizione sovraccoperta: Poor. First UK Edition. First UK edition, first impression. Edge wear, chipping and small loss to top and bottom of jacket and spine, largely white jacket with endorsement from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle worn and time stained, holes to inside flaps, ffep and title page missing, browning and time staining to page fore edges, a few pages loose and stuck back with old sellotape, slight lean. Not price clipped (£2.50), no personal inscriptions, overall a bit of a mess. 390pp. Dr. Carl A. Wickland, (1861-1945), was a member of the Chicago Medical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the chief psychiatrist at the National Psychopathic Institute of Chicago. Wickland specialized in cases of schizophrenia, paranoia, depression, addiction, manic-depression, criminal behavior and other phobias. After moving to Los Angeles in 1918, he founded the National Psychological Institute of Los Angeles with his wife Anna Wickland, who was a trance medium. Wickland treated many patients suffering from mental illness of all kinds, and after many years experience came to the conclusion that a number of patients he treated had 'attachment',' by that he meant that spiritual entities had attached themselves to unwitting mortals and influenced them (often) in the worst kind of way, leading them to alcoholism, madness, and occasionally murder. Wickland stated at the time; Spirit obsession is a fact, a perversion of a natural law, and is amply demonstrable. This has been proven hundreds of times by causing the supposed insanity or aberration to be temporarily transferred from the victim to a psychic sensitive who is trained for the purpose, and by this method ascertain the cause of the psychosis to be an ignorant or mischievous spirit, whose identity may frequently be verified. Having come to the 'spirit obsession' conclusion, Wickland and his wife set up a rescue circle, with Mrs. Wickland acting as the medium, and they set about communicating with lost souls who had passed away and were unaware of their post physical death condition and often in denial due to dogmatic religious and equally dogmatic atheist beliefs. Quite a scarce book, totally bonkers!.
