Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. "First Edition" on its copyright page. Signed and dated "1982" by author Jacqueline Lichtenberg on its title page, with her inscription, "To Susan Pitts, Who is learning why Wisdom cannot be given as a gift." This book is in very good condition, marred only by remainder spray on bottom of its text block, and three light bumps across its spine. Its binding is sound and square. Covers are unmarked and otherwise unworn. Pages are unworn and otherwise unmarked. Its dust jacket, now protected by a removable mylar cover, is in near fine condition: whole and unmarked, with some light wear on bottom of its spine, and a trace of toning to its spine, back flap fold, and along top edge. I will ship this book in a moisture proof zip-loc bag, padded in bubble wrap, inside a sturdy box to assure it reaches its new owner in the same condition as my description. Inscribed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. 1st Edition. Stated First Edition. This book came from the library of the renowned actor, balladeer, and political activist, Theodore Bikel, more specifically from the library of his ex-wife. The book is inscribed on the first front end paper. The inscription reads 'Dear Theo, I think you said it right on channel 4, after the skyjacking incident: "Art is, in the end, the quintessence of man's hopes--" Jacqueline Lichtenberg, 1979.' I've rated the book only Good due to a few condition issues which I'll describe in a moment. Positively the book is square. The spine is straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The covers are clean. The blue lettering on the spine is bright. As you can see from the photo, there was a bump at the bottom edge of the spine leaving some creasing. There are also a few small indents on the spine, and the top edge has a little crinkling. The edges are in solid shape, although there is a little bit of brown spotting at the top edge of the rear cover and two small spots on the front top edge. The corners are in very good shape. There is one tiny crease just above the front bottom corner. The page edges, particularly the top and middle ones, are quite dust stained or spotted. A little bit of the spotting can be seen off the edge of the signed page (second photo). In scrolling through the pages, I can see that the top page edge spotting did not migrate to the actual pages. The middle page edge spotting only very occasionally just barely peeks over onto the actual page, but you can see the dust staining on the page edge as you scroll through (or read through) the pages. Otherwise the pages are exceptionally clean. I'm not seeing any soiling. I'm also not seeing any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. The same bump that impacted the bottom edge of the book's spine has impacted the bottom edge of the jacket's spine. There's also a small tear at the top edge of the spine. The spine is slightly toned, a little more beige than the rear cover. The rear cover looks pretty good. It has one speck of a spot, and it does have some spotting/foxing just off of its middle edge. The flaps are in solid shape. There is some spotting/foxing on the outer edge of the rear flap. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned. Inscribed by Author(s).
