Hardcover. Condizione: As New. Condizione sovraccoperta: As New. This is a beutiful book: Black paper over boards wiith gilt print; 400 pages; very tight binding; square ocrners; no marks; no chips or tears; text block is bright and clean. To say Kessler and his team of FDA regulators "defeated" Big Tobacco is an overstatement: they were part of a broader effort that included trial lawyers, consumer groups, and crusading journalists, and the industry hasn't exactly gone away. Libro Copia autografata
Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. Second Printing (Number Line to 2). Signed and inscribed on the title page ( 'To John, With admiration, David Kessler.' ). Both the book and the dust jacket are in excellent condition. I've rated them Near Fine because a Fine rating feels like a claim of perfection. But here you are pretty close to that. As you can see from the photos, the covers are free of soiling. The edges and corners evidence no wear. The spine is in excellent shape. There is a tiny bit of the typical crinkling at its top and bottom edges. The page edges are perfectly clean. The silver lettering on the spine is very bright and unworn. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover. The pages are nicely tight throughout. The covers are without issue. The pages are also exceptionally clean. I've scrolled through them a number of times without finding any instances of soiling. They are also nicely bright. I'm not finding any creasing. There are no markings. There are no attachments. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. As you can also see from the photos, the dust jacket is very clean. There are no tears. The flaps are in very good condition as well, perfectly clean. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned. From the Dust Jacket: 'When David Kessler came to Washington to lead the Food and Drug Administration in 1990, the agency was at a low point, weakened by years of deregulatory fervor and by the corrupt actions of a few. And soon after taking office, the thirty-nine-year-old physician had to deal with the daily drama of murders masquerading as random product tamperings, imports of contaminated body parts from the former Soviet Union, political fights over the contents of food labels, and efforts to speed life-saving therapies to desperate patients. What was not on David Kessler's agenda was tobacco. But soon he confronted a simple question: "Why doesn't the FDA regulate the consumer product that is the nation's number-one killer?" Everyone in Washington offered the same answer--the tobacco industry is too big and too influential. Challenging it would be a fool's errand. Despite the risks, Kessler and a group of unlikely heroes at the FDA began an historic journey inside the mazes of America's most secret and deadliest industry. 'A Question of Intent' tells their story.'. Inscribed by Author(s).
