Reprint / revised edition. An attractive copy of this abstract / abridgement of Guthrie's Universal Geography. Full leather binding with gilt decorations to the spine. Leather label with titles (possibly a little later). There is some rubbing and bumping to the binding, but is still holding together well. The work is dated "An X" in the revolutionary format, as well as 1802. Collation has been difficult. The title page states 11 illuminated maps. Our copy has Eight large folding maps, hand coloured in outline. We would assume some missing, but the only other copy of this edition we can find has the same maps (and no more). Certainly later editions (1807 onwards) have 11 maps, but bookseller's catalogues suggest that further revisions in the geography of Europe following the Treaty of the Rhine have been incorporated. Our copy contains: 1) Mappe-Monde ou carte générale de Terre; 2) Carte d'Europe; 3) France comparative en provinces et en Départemens; 4) Carte d'Asie; 5) Afrique; 6) Amérique septentrionale; 7) Amérique méridionale; 8) Monde connu des Anciens. In addition it contains an attractive full page engraving of a sphere, and a large folding chart showing the departments of France. There is no sign of any maps having been removed.
