Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. 1st Edition. Bill Bolton: Flying Midshipman by Lieutenant Noel Sainsbury, Jr., fourth book in The Bill Bolton Naval Aviation Series, was published by The Goldsmith Publishing Co., Chicago, in 1933. Not an ex-library copy, this 251-page, 80-year-old, 5 1/4" X 7 1/2", thought-to-be First Edition offering is in VG/G condition. The book, despite its 80 years of existence, is still firm/sound physically. There is modest yellowing of endpapers front and back as well as the pages of text, and very modest shelf wear at top and bottom edges of spine. The dust jacket, again, for its somewhat advanced years, is generally, from end to end, in quite decent physical shape. There is fairly noticeable shelf wear at top and bottom edges of jacket's spine as well as at the four points where the front/back inside jacket flaps make their inward folds. From front inside jacket flap, "Bill Bolton: Flying Midshipman [features the] thrilling adventures of a boy flyer in the cypress swamps of Florida. Bill is captured and enslaved in outlaw gold workings. His escape and the fate of the bandits form the climax of this corking story." And, Reader, there is action, danger, and suspense right from page one. Even before Bill and his prominent father, head of the Bolton Sugar Corporation, are taken prisoner by Tony and Diego(two surly, armed operatives of rich and ruthless Mr. Martinengro, owner of a well-hidden gold mine deep in the mangroves of Florida's Big Cypress swampland), they are forced to land their amphibious plane in hurricane-tossed waters off the Florida Keys. They must then ride out the storm while working desperately to keep their plane from going nose down into the deep. Soon after their capture and imprisonment, Bill and his father are separated, for Bill is thrown in with a group of fellow captives earmarked for work at the out-of-the-way mine. Find out if young Bill Bolton is able to extract himself from his dire situation, return to rescue his dad, and bring Martinengro and his cohorts to justice! This is a prime example of the sort of material many young boys were partaking of for their reading pleasure in Depression America, circa the early 1930's. Thank you very much!!.
