Softcover. Condizione: Very Good+. 1st printing thus. [light edgewear only, tiny split in binding at top front hinge]. (Bestseller Mystery, No. B143) Series About as nice a copy of this title (or any in the cheaply-produced and very wear-prone "Bestseller Mystery" series, for that matter) as you're likely to find. Contemporaneous digest-size reprint of Fuller's breakthrough novel, a slam-bang mystery set in the New York tabloid milieu where the screenwriter/director had cut his pulp-narrative teeth. The book was filmed as SCANDAL SHEET by Phil Karlson in 1952, while Fuller himself was simultaneously at work on his own personal paean to the newspaper biz, PARK ROW. This was the only printing of "The Dark Page" under this alternate title.

Stapled wraps. Condizione: Good. First Edition Thus. [moderate wear to all corners and along spine, short diagonal crease at bottom right corner of front cover, other miscellaneous wrinkling and soft creasing in front cover, faint beverage ring on front cover, some scrunching near spine to the bottom edges of a group of pages, light stain on top right of text block (no bleed onto pages)]. This pocket-size printing of Fuller's newspaper/mystery yarn has its own special place in his personal mythology: by the author's own account, he first encountered his book in published form in this very edition -- in France, shortly after D-Day, when he observed another G.I. reading a copy. He later dramatized this incident in "The Big Red One" (both book and film) -- re-titling the book "The Dark Deadline." (According to Fuller, he'd left the first draft of the novel with his mother before he shipped out -- intending to revise and polish it after the war -- and she had proceeded to make the deal for its publication.).

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. The Dark Page by Samuel Michael Fuller First Edition Duell, Sloan & Pearce 1944. New York. A near fine copy that has no inscriptions or marks. No foxing to (uncut) edges and contents unblemished. Covers are bright and without fading or darkening to spine. In original VG dust jacket, again with no fading or toning to spine. Not price clipped. "The Dark Page" is a mystery novel written by Samuel Michael Fuller, who is better known for his work as a filmmaker and screenwriter. The novel was first published in 1944. Samuel Fuller was known for his contributions to film noir, and this novel reflects that genre's characteristics. The story in "The Dark Page" revolves around the murder of a newspaper publisher, and the novel combines elements of crime, suspense, and journalistic intrigue. The plot follows a newspaper editor who becomes involved in solving the murder, which is intricately tied to the world of journalism. Samuel Michael Fuller's novel is known for its hard-boiled style, reflecting the gritty and morally complex world of journalism and crime. It captures the spirit of classic film noir and the suspenseful and atmospheric storytelling of that era. While Fuller is better recognized for his cinematic work, "The Dark Page" is a notable contribution to crime fiction and noir literature.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Poor. Second Printing. A good copy of the stated second printing in a poor dust-jacket, warmly inscribed (with a self-portrait) and signed by Fuller in pencil on the front free endpaper. Binding is solid, but shows some shelf-wear along the bottom edges. The dust-jacket is missing a section along the top eighth of the front panel, and is abraded visibly in several spots midway down the spine. There is an intact tear along the upper edge of the rear panel. Protected by Brodart cover. Despite the decidedly poor condition of the jacket this is a stunning volume, given the lovely inscription, which renders it quite rare. Signed by Author(s).

Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. First Edition. First edition, first printing. [Johnson The Dark Page II p. 68]. [vi], 250 pp. Original navy cloth lettered in red. Near Fine with two small stains to top edge, dust-soiling to edges, in an unfaded, vividly colored Very Good+ example of the rare dust jacket, small hole in spine panel, a few small tears near head, two tiny dampstains to back panel, a little wear and pencil checkmark to spine panel, light foxing to flaps, unclipped. The breakthrough crime novel by Samuel Fuller, who had just barely augmented his income as a reporter with three earlier unsuccessful novels. After kicking around Hollywood as a script whose rights holder was director Howard Hawks, the rights were sold and it was made into the 1952 film noir Scandal Sheet. Fuller went on to direct a number of genre films, belatedly gaining critical acclaim for his singular "tabloid" style.
