One of 483 numbered copies of this facsimile of the Codice Riccardiano 483, Biblioteca Riccardiana of Florence. Miniature book (2 7/8 x 2 inches). 225 leaves plus the colophon. Publisher's red velvet with gilt and gauffered edges. Housed with the 64 pp. commentary volume in the publisher's silver box with ribbon ties. An excellent copy. This is a quality facsimile of the famous Florentine Book of Hours presented as a wedding gift to to Niccola di Andrea di Niccola Capponi and his wife Antonia di Battista di Luigi Ridolfi. The illumintor, Monte di Giovanni del Fora, made this masterpiece of Florentine illumination in the last quarter of the 15th century at the behest of two significant Florentine families of the cinquecento: Capponi and Ridolfi. "Measuring an unbelievable 6.6 x 5 cm, this precious manuscript is one of the smallest books of hours to survive to today. Nevertheless, its contents possess surprisingly lavish illumination. The 464 pages of the manuscript are embellished all over with grandiose painting. Miniatures of biblical tales, with scenes from the childhood of Jesus and the life of the Virgin Mary from the Annunciation and birth up to the events of the Passion illustrating the pages of the manuscript. Additionally, one finds wonderful initials and broad, ornamental borders with stylized leafy tendrils on the pages of this gem of illumination. "(ZIEREIS).

Cloth. Condizione: As New. Condizione sovraccoperta: As New. Edition originale. Title: Dono d'amore : le ore Capponi-Ridolfi Author: Price: Euro 2.500,00.- ISBN: 9788884271785 Description: Commentario cura di Giovanna Lazzi. Firenze: Vallecchi, 2007. 7cm., velvet, 225pp. Facsimile of the Codice Riccardiano 483, Biblioteca Riccardiana of Florence (15th century), separate 64pp. commentary volume. Publisher's summary: Capponi and Ridolfi, two historical families of Florence. Aristocrats by birth and politicians by vocation, Gino Capponi and Cosimo Ridolfi belonged to the group of moderate liberals summoned by Leopold II of Lorraine in 1847 to administer the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. Conserved in the Biblioteca Riccardiana and inventoried under number 483, this splendid volume was a wedding gift, which recalls the marriage of two descendants of the illustrious houses in 1500, Niccola di Andrea di Niccola Capponi and Antonia di Battista di Luigi Ridolfi. Of extremely limited dimensions, only a few centimetres each side, and yet of exquisite workmanship, it is one of the smallest prayer books that has come down to the present day. An extreme synthesis of an art by then at its dusk, as was the miniature in the late fifteenth century, this manuscript was commissioned from Monte di Giovanni, one of the greatest Florentine masters of the time, who conferred on its tiny pages, the same breadth found in the tables and large anthem books for public use. We have recreated this wealth and preciousness by using a special parchment paper, on which hot-tooled gold has been applied, using the reverse procedure compared to typographical printing, so as to give the page all of the worn and vibrant naturalness of the backgrounds and the very subtle design of the highlights. Entirely bound and sewn by hand, also due to the total absence of tools capable of offering help in working such small pages, the volume is lined in velvet like the original, while the cut of the pages has gilt embossing, in total philological respect of the work. Edition of 483 copies. Size: Cm.7.
