Measures around 8 3/4" by 5 7/8" by 1 5/8". Blue-indigo cloth binding, gilt lettering spine. Discolouration to spine and edges of boards, with a little tearing to upper and lower edges of spine. Scuffing and marking, signs of shelf-wear, slightly bumped corners. Binding reasonably firm, though some strain to hinges and a little cracking to front inner hinge. Page edges a bit browned, scuffed and foxed. Previous owner bookplate to front pastedown, a little marking and foxing to preliminary and hindmost pages, the odd mark to page surfaces here and there but otherwise reasonably clean and there does not appear to be any underlining, marginalia, etc. See pictures for further information. xxxvi + 514 pp. n.

The contents of this selection of sixteen Stuart Tracts in the English Garner series, include original texts on the accession of James I, some maritime narratives, continental travels and campaigns (France and Flanders, 1657-58), the northern campaigns of Thomas Lord Fairfax in the the Civil War, and the arrival of Charles II in England in 1660. These texts were reprinted from the eight volumes of the English Garner, 1877-90, by Professor Edward Arber (1836-1912). Charles Harding Firth (1857-1936) was born in Sheffield and educated at Oxford, serving as Regius Professor of Modern History, 1904-25.
