Publisher's illustrated paper-covered boards with green cloth to spine and endpapers patterned in orange. Light repair to split upper hinge. Doubled leaves unopened, as intended, with a strong tobacco scent. Quite heavy wear and toning to binding, with a repair to split upper hinge, bumping to corners, and fraying to head and tail of spine. Very good. A prelude to the 'Flower Fairies' concept, taken to its logical conclusion by Cicely Mary Barker in the 1920's.

A fine copy in fine clamshell box. This copy has been rebound in a signed binding by Monique Lallier in later limp full crushed yellow morocco with red, blue, green, and brown morocco onlays with the title stamped in red on the front cover. Suede endsheets. The clamshell box is of an interlocking design with the title stamped on the front. A charming flower story written and illustrated by Walter Crane. The text is accompanied by forty colour illustrations showing the masque of flowers. Walter Crane is considered to be one of the most influential children's book writers of his generation. He contributed to the child's nursery motif of the late 19th century. This edition includes Cassell's publisher's adverts with a detailed list of other publications. full limp leather binding, clamshell box.
