Octavo, navy blue cloth & gold boards (hardcover), 485 pp. Very Good+ in a Fine, mylar protected dust jacket. From dust jacket: The Fool's Progress is the story of Henry Holyoak Lightcap's uncertain advance through life, recounted during a 3,500 mile journey from the acrid wasteland of Tucson, Arizona, to the "green, fuzzy, mist-infested hills" of a fictional Stump Creek, West Virginia. The journey -- Henry is accompanied by his dying dog, Solstice -- takes place in April 1980; the life journey begins over a half a century earlier, with the "mishap of birth" continuing as a series of adventurous episodes, amorous and otherwise, ranging from West Virginia to Europe to western America and back. Icaresque in form, personal in style, unique in point of view, The Fool's Progress can best and only be summarized, in the author's words, as "an Edward Abbey kind of novel." Nobody else could have written such a book. "A kind of outrageous comedy is central to the thematic body of Abbey's work -- a freewheeling wililngness to be brash, satiric, excessive. His is a kind of gallows humor poised against the mechanized diminishment of the human spirit." Literature, Fiction, Southern Americana, American West, Americana. nslic.

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. A nice copy of Abbey's semi-autobiographical novel. Warmly inscribed on the front free endpaper by Abbey. The book has an ink line on the top of text block, very light wear to head and heel of spine. The dust jacket has a light rub along the area where the spine binding meets the yellow portiion of the boards, creating a ridge that has made a faint impression on the dust jacket. A small scuff mark near apine and light wear at head of spine. No chips or tears. None of these defects is very noticeable and this is a nice book anyone would be proud to have in their collection. All our books ship in a box, and ship free within the US. Signed by Author(s).

First Edition. 485pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] 1/2 blue cloth over yellow boards with the title gilt stamped on the backstrip. Near fine/Near fine. Signed by Abbey on the front free endsheet. Semi-autobiographical work about a man, who refuses to submit to modern commercial society, and walks from Arizona to West Virginia. Abbey considered this novel his "fat masterpiece." This was the last novel published in Abbey's lifetime. Edward Abbey (1927-1989) was a celebrated author, essayist, conservationist, noted pain-in-the-ass, and in many ways the father (or at the very least, uncle) of the modern environmental movements.
