Prima edizione Copia autografata
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Hardcover with DJ. Blue cloth with gold lettering on spine, shield emblem on the cover. Binding good and clean and tight. No date on title page. Copyright page dated 1965. 101 pages. Part of the All Souls Studies monograph series. Neat and clean throughout. This copy handsomely inscribed on the front endpaper, 'Jane and Lincoln Brower from their friend, E.B. Ford.' A wonderful association copy, from the Brower collection. Jane van Zandt was his wife at the time, a noted lepidopterist in her own right. Ford is best remembered for his work on evolution and genetics, and is forever linked to the famous peppered moth studies, which were carried out under his supervision (though not his project). Despite a long and celebrated career at Oxford, books signed by Ford are vanishingly scarce. We've got a wonderful bookshelf of books from Lincoln Brower's collection listed here in our Brower catalogue. Everything you know about Monarch Butterflies, you know because of Brower's work, both scientific and outreach. He was a great teacher, an important researcher, a torch-bearing conservationist, and a leading light in lepidoptery. We are extremely excited to offer his books.
