Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. Drawing on their unparallel knowledge of the Jack the Ripper murders and their professional experience as police officers, the two doyens of serious Ripper writing join forces for the first time to write the definitive book on the case from the perspective of the police investigation. As the title declares, this is the complete investigation and is full of new insights and information on the murders and who might have committed them. The authors re-open every aspect of the case and offer a balanced account that does not favour any one suspect or motive. By viewing the case through the lens of police procedure, they have uncovered clues and links that have remained undetected for over a hundred years. Evans and Rumbelow also extend the investigation beyond the 'canonical' five victims and add other murders investigated at the same time that bring the total to twelve. Jack the Ripper: The Complete Investigation strips away much of the nonsense that has accumulated since 1888 and draws the reader into the world of police investigation in Victorian London, reopening files on a case that will perhaps never be solved, but will always fascinate. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. viii+304pp. Illus. in text. 4to. A very well illustrated edition in which the authors and Ripper experts treat the case like a police investigation. Using their professional experience as police officers, they uncover clues which have remained undetected for over a hundred years. Apart from the five widely acknowledged victims, the Scotland Yard files include another six cases. The authors reveal the conflict between the City and Metropolitan forces and the ridicule heaped upon them by the press. They investigate each murder and come to the conclusion that only four of the eleven victims were in fact murdered by the Ripper. They also question the motives behind the destruction of evidence and ask whether Dr Robert Anderson, officer in charge, knew the killer's real identity. A fascinating study. Bibliography and Index. (heavy item, may require additional postage on overseas orders).

'In 1888 the dreaded figure of Jack the Ripper stalked London's East End murdering prostitutes. His crimes set in motion a huge police operation and have held a dark fascination over the public's imagination for over a century, yet his identity has never been proved. Now for the first time, two leading Ripper experts have joined forces to treat the case like a police investigation. Drawing on their unparalleled knowledge of the Jack the Ripper murders and their professional experience as police officers, they uncover clues that have remained undetected for over 100 years. The 'canonical' five Ripper victims are Polly Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Kelly. Yet Scotland Yard's 'Whitechapel Murders' files include another six suspected victims. Drawing the reader into the world of police investigation in Victorian London, the authors reveal the conflict between the City and the Metropolitan forces and the ridicule heaped on the police by the press. Investigating each murder, they conclude that only four of the eleven victims were actually killed by the Ripper. Perhaps most tellingly, they question the motives behind the destruction of evidence - particularly the message 'The Juwes are the men that will not be blamed for nothing', which was chalked on the wall near one murder site and rubbed out on the order of the Chief Comissioner - and ask whether the enigmatic Dr Robert Anderson, officer in charge of the investigation, knew the Ripper's true identity.' A book which strips away much of the nonsense that has accumulated since 1888 and reopens files on a case that will perhaps never be fully solved but will always fascinate.
