He learned the publishing business working in the house of Jeremias Wolff and established his own print shop in 1710. The Seutter publishing house specialized in producing large format maps, globes and atlases based on existing works by cartographers from other firms. Seutter's maps and engravings are known as some of the most decorative produced during the 18th Century, and are sought after for their bold graphic quality and strong use of color.
