Prima edizione Copia autografata
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good +. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good -. First Edition. Leif the Unlucky by Erik Christian Haugaard was published by Houghton Mifflin Company in 1982. Not an ex-library copy, this 5 1/2" X 8 1/4", 206-page, Signed First Edition offering is in VG+/G- condition. The quite wonderful overall condition of this book explains better than words the less impressive condition of its dust jacket. The book, firm and crisp, does evidence some very modest yellowing of text's pages. The dust jacket, although overall holding up fairly well, does evidence noticeable shelf wear at top and bottom edges of its spine, as well as at the four edges/spots where the inside flaps make their inward folds. Shelf wear is seen, too, along random spots of top and bottom edges of front cover section of jacket, and I clear taped in 2-3 spots to shore up beginnings of small tears. From front inside jacket flap, "A young descendant of the Norsemen finds himself caught up in the life-and-death struggle in this exciting new novel by a distinguished writer. Leif Magnusson is the son of a landholder in the abandoned Norwegian colony in Greenland. While his elders, lost in their dreams of a glorious past, vainly await the coming of supply ships from the homeland in Norway, Leif and his little band of children try to deal with the practical problems of survival in their barren, icebound land. Leif's own hopes are challenged and threatened by the ambitious Egil Sigurdson, who seeks to restore the worship of the ancient gods Odin and Thor, and make himself master of all Greenland. This saga of the last days of a doomed colony is filled with drama, adventure, and the insight that always pervades [the Author's] writing." Haugaard, by the way, has SIGNED this volume beneath the title on the half title page. There is but one Illustration, a map, spanning two pages, of Greenland: The Eastern Settlement, drawn very nicely, indeed, by one Brian Lalor. Thank you!!. Signed by Author(s).
