Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine dj. Illustrated by (dj design) Claudia Zeff (illustratore). First Edition. [a beautiful copy, clean and unmarked with no discernible wear to book; the jacket shows just the teensiest bit of handling wear, with a minor wrinkle at the upper left corner of the front panel and a tiny horizontal surface-scratch on the rear panel]. (B&W photographs) The first volume of autobiography by the great British filmmaker, who began his career in the silent film era as a "boy-of-all-work" at the studio of director Rex Ingram in the south of France, subsequently working his way up through the quota-quickie-dominated British film industry of the 1920s and 1930s (working with Alfred Hitchcock, among others). Hired by producer Alexander Korda in the late 1930s, he teamed up with Emeric Pressburger, and went on to produce and direct some of the most glorious productions of the British cinema, including BLACK NARCISSUS and THE RED SHOES; the present volume leaves off just following the production and release of the latter film. This is the true first edition, preceding the American (Knopf) edition by a year. (The second part of Powell's autobiography, "Million Dollar Movie," was published posthumously in 1992.) ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.****.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. First Edition. First American Edition. Laid in are 2 letters written on "Michael Powell Productions" letterhead and each signed by Powell. The first is dated April 10, but with no year indicated. This letter is written entirely by hand and is addressed to a man who judging from the context had some small involvement (though not found in credits) in Powell's movie, "Gone To Earth", or in the U.S. - "The Wild Heart". The second letter, dated Jan. 3, 1988, is typed, and signed Powell. This brief letter is addressed to the widow of the recipeint of the first letter and concerns this book. There are a few inked notations/doodles at the bottom and back of this second letter. As to the book itself (which is not signed), Very Good in a Very Good dust jacket. Mild bump to upper corners of boards/jacket. There is a slender 1.5 inch long strip of tape residue near top of front endpage where Powell's obituary had been taped (obit has since been neatly removed/laid in). Jacket has a little darkening about the edges. Original price intact on front flap. Signed by Author(s).

Near fine in a close to fine dj. (Light trace of foxing at top edge. Hint of shelfwear to boards & cloth. Dj. a tad toned at white edges) (B).
