Höchst geheimnisvoll und nur unter größten Schwierigkeiten zu entziffern sind sie gleichwohl.Die Texte stammen aus den Jahren 1924 bis 1932 und spiegeln Walsers letzte Jahre in Bern ebenso wie die Zeit in der Psychiatrischen Klinik Waldau. Nach wie vor versucht Walser, in allem Wechsel von Erlebnissen und Stimmungen 'sich selbst willkommen zu heißen' oder, wie er an anderer Stelle sagt, 'Unentweihtheiten' an sich zu entdecken.Es war zuletzt ein kruder Verwaltungsakt der Klinikleitung, der seinem Schreiben ein Ende bereitete. Im Juni 1933 verlegte man Walser in die Heilanstalt Herisau, von welchem Tage an er seine Bleistifte nicht mehr anrührte.
