Soft cover. Condizione: Fine. Ingri Parin D'aulaire (illustratore). Reprint. Tiny ding in the upper portion of the rear of the wrapper (only flaw); overall a very crisp and clean used copy; almost new and unread condition; gift quality! Full-color illustrated wrapper with red and white lettering. 45 very clean unmarked and uncreased historical and informative pages nicely enhanced by black and white and full-color illustrations! "First published in 1946 with the d'Aulaires's beautiful lithographic prints, this tale of the first colony at Jamestown is told from the perspective of the princess daughter of the mighty chief Powhatan. When the Natives judge the white man's magic as evil, John Smith is condemned to death?only the intervention of Pocahontas saves his life and a tentative friendship is established between Pocahontas's tribe and the new colonists. The King of England sends a crown, rich robes and a royal bed to honor Powhatan and he is pleased, but the white man's insistence that the Indians give them corn to sustain them through the long winters threatens their tenuous relationship. Pocahontas's ultimate marriage to John Rolfe, the birth of their son, their voyage to England and presentation to the King and Queen is the stuff of fairy tales except that it is one of the great true stories of America's earliest days.".

Condizione: fair, ex-lib. First Edition. 40, illus. (some color), some library markings, bds worn/soiled, bd corners rubbed, tears at bottom of several pgs repaired w/ tape. This is the dramatic story of a brave young Native American woman who went against the precepts of her tribe to defend a white man, John Smith. The pictures are full of interesting detail. The drawings for this book were lithographed directly on stone by the artists and printed in four colors by George C. Miller.
Hardback. No Dustjacket. Bound in Pictorial Boards. Ex-Library copy with all the usual faults. The entire length of the spine and interior hinges have been reinforced with black library tape, but this has been nicely done and does not look all that bad. A nice tight sound reading copy with clean interior pages.
