Tight, square binding, sound hinges. No wear to the cream cloth with brown ink titles and illustrations. Abbott was a cowboy in the great days of the 1870's and 1880's. He came up the trail to Montana from Texas with the long-horned herds which were to stock the northern ranges; he punched cows in Montana when there wasn't a fence in the territory; and he married a daughter of Granville Stuart, the famous early-day stockman and Montana pioneer. For more than fifty years he was known to cowmen from Texas to Alberta as "Teddy Blue." A leading book on the range cattle industry of which Six Score 1 says, "This is perhaps the most straight forward account of cowboy life. Teddy Blue Abbott was raised in Nebraska; after leaving home his first job as a cowboy was with the notorious Olive outfit. He had a number of other jobs before coming up the trail to Montana in 1883, where he remained." Eventually he married one of Granville Stuart's daughters and settled down. Fine bright copy in dust jacket lightly darkened on the spine, small chip to head of spine, minor wear to foot of spine, two tiny closed tears to top edge of rear cover. Sharp copy and getting scarce in collector's condition.
