Octavo. (10 cm. x 18 cm.) 188 pp. Photo pictorial wrappers. Very minor edgewear. Edges in orange stain. Near Fine. The British television show, "The Prisoner", only ran for 17 episodes but the influence of this short-lived experiment, has lasted until the present day. An unnamed British intelligence agent is kidnapped and is seemingly held hostage at a coastal village. He tries to escape his captors at every turn from the alternatively surreal, anachronistic and even sometimes pleasant surroundings only to be brought back in increasingly strange and bizarre ways. The theme of the individual versus the collective, and self-doubt versus the bureaucratic madness in society are echoes from the silent film, "The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari". Created by the show's star, Patrick McGoohan, "The Prisoner", has become an enormous cult favorite, cited again and again in worldwide popular culture. This novelization is one of only three books written contemporary to the series. The "Prisoner" books first appeared in paperback, making this copy a True First.
