Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good+. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good dj. Early printing. [a good sound clean copy, minor wear to extremities, very light bumping to upper rear corner, some browning to the cloth at the base of the spine; the jacket has some paper loss at the spine ends (partially affecting the publisher's name at the base), with some shallow chipping and a couple of tiny tears along the top and bottom edges, a few short cracks along the rear hinge, and scuffing and soiling to the rear panel]. (illustrated endpapers, 8 color plates) The highlight of this edition is, of course, the beautiful color illustrations by N.C. Wyeth: eight full-page plates plus a title-page illustration. (Rather curiously, the author Paul Creswick is credited only on the spine of the book (and the jacket spine), but not on the title page or anywhere else in the book itself.) I suspect this is not the first printing (although the title page bears the 1917 date and no additonal printings are indicated), because the border and the title on the cover of the book itself (see second scanned image) are dark green rather than gilt as observed on several other copies claiming to be "first editions"; also, there are no tissue guards for the color plates. (The jacket flaps and the rear panel are blank.) ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this moderately heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.****.
