Bicentennial Edition. Hardbound 4to (11.25 inches tall) 207 pages. Bibliography, index. Illustrated endpapers. Description: The panoramic scene on the dust jacket is a sketch by Emil Lehman showing the corner of 3rd and J streets in 1852. Originally published in a limited printing in 1973, this is the Bicentennial Edition from two years later. Well illustrated with black and white and sepia tone pictures -- contemporary art and many historic photographs. Also includes a few pages in color. A history of California's capital city, from the days of John Sutter's empire to the completion of the capitol building in 1874. This edition also reprints the colophon found at the rear of the earlier limited edition, with a statement about the materials used, and gives the printer as Phelps / Schaefer Litho-graphics Company in San Francisco. Book design by John Beyer. BINDING/CONDITION: brown cloth with gilt vignette and spine text; the front endpapers have owner's gift note, and a discoloration, apparently from a news clipping, otherwise a Very Good book, with a Very Good dust jacket; the jacket is price clipped. ISBN: B000PRWWCW.
